Nuchal translucency scan and blood test

Hi I just had NC scan and blood test and the result isn't that great.  At the ultrasound, they were measuring about 3.4mm which is thicker that what they wanted it to be and blood test result was 1:30.  Has anyone had or seen this kind of high numbers and had perfectly normal babies?  I am having an amniocentesis in about two weeks, and I am so worried.  This is my forth pregnancy with no child.  I really want this pregnancy to be healthy...

My sister in law had scary numbers on her triple screen and I have a beautiful, perfectly healthy nephew that was born in April.  She opted to have the amnio as she needed the peace of mind.  It put her mind at ease once she saw that all was well. I have heard from her and others that test results like yours are very very common, even with all being perfectly normal.  All the best to you!!

Your welcome.  I think it was on the high end, and I can't remember the number...but I do remember worrying about it, just as you are.  Believe me, I was consumed with the numbers, and the odds, etc.. but I had to surrender all the worry, because it ultimately was out of my hands, what fate would bring me (or wouldn't).  You'll be just fine.  Don't worry, and try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy!  Keep me posted!  Pam

Thank you for your reply.  Did your NT scan come out elevated also?

Hi!  Yes, I had scary numbers too, 1:27 for downs.  I did not have an amnio and delivered a perfect baby boy!  The choice for an amnio is yours, it's a tough one at that...but know that these numbers and statistics are just that...numbers and statistics, and mostly False positives!!  Try not to worry, I know easier said than done...but truly, practically everyone on this forum goes through the scary numbers and most if not all have gone on to have perfectly healthy babies, with and without having the amnio! Take care!

I would suggest talking to a Genetic Counselor before having an Amino.  You need to decide what you're going to actually do with the Amino results.  If they tell you with an Amino that you're going to have a child with Downs, are you actually going to terminate the pregnany?  I know this is your decision, but I would steer away from an Amino, I feel it's too risky, but again it's your decision.  Best of luck to you.  The NT test have been know to give a lot of false positive results.
