Indigestion

I can't ever remember a time when I've had indigestion.  I can eat anything and it's never bothered me.  For the past 2 days i've had the most horrible indigestion.  No matter what I eat I have it .  Really don't know if this has to do with pregnancy, but since I've never expereinced it before I thought it might.  Does anyone know if it is related?

Typically, I eat bran cereal or an egg sandwich for breakfast.  for lunch I've been eating a salad with grilled chicken on it.  Dinner is usually a pop tart or cheese sandwich or soup, and I've been snacking on apples or bananas.  I really would't think those things would cause such bad indigestion, but apparently they are.  So are there foods I can eat that won't cause it?  My sister told me I can take tums, but I'd rather change my diet to whatever won't cause it in the first place.

thanks for the tips.  I'll try anything.  I just got home from the store and have already eaten two tums and I really hope they kick in soon.  All I've eaten today is an egg sandwich and a banana and that was probably 6 hours ago...so I don't think it's the food.

Monica, last time I was pregnant ( I m/c at 6 weeks) all I wanted was spicy anything.  I ate hot wings and mexican food constantly.  I'm 5 weeks pregnant now and I'm wanting spicy stuff too.  Wonder if that's common?

Try water with lemon.  Works like a charm for me.

My grandmother swears that a teaspoon of mustard will help with heartburn. I really hope this doesn't happen to me, because I've been craving chile, hot sauce, and basically anything spicy!

I didn't even know they came in flavors.  (well, probably cos I've never needed them b4)  They are on my shopping list for today, so thanks for the heads up.

Tums are awesome! According to my nine year old.  He gets indigestion occasionally because of a medicine he takes.  Get the mixed fruit ones though the plain ones are nasty!

Thanks again.  You're so sweet to keep answering all my questions.  I thought this must be pregnancy related since I've never had it before.  Good to hear that yours went away.

I'll try the milk and I'm going to invest in some tums when I go to the store tomorrow.  As bad as all this feels....the constant heartburn and the fatigue has really set in lately.....it's all worth it.

Ah yes, heartburn.  I also had never really had it until pregnancy.  Fortunately, it seemed to go away for me after first trimester.  The only thing that made any difference for me was staying away from anything spicy and sticking to a fairly bland diet (sounds like your already doing that).  Remember that many of your symptoms (and yep, this is one) are caused by hormonal changes then anything else, so you may find that you do need to take something like tums.  I also found dairy helped a bit.  A glass of milk before a meal.  Not sure why...maybe it coats the tummy or something?  Like I said though, good news is that for me anyway, this went away second trimester and didn't return until the very last few weeks of my pregnancy.  Hope you feel better soon!

I should have said heartburn.  It's a burning feeling in my stomach and into my throat, like the acid.
