40 and scared

Im 40 and met this great guy who is 34yrs old. We love each other so much and plan to start a family soon.

I had a miscarriage last year from a previous relationship and I have told these to my present BF and he was okay with my past, adding that he appreciates my honesty.

What Im scared about this time is if I will still have a chance in falling pregnant amidst my fribroids (I have fibroids which my OB says wont pose any problem in conceiving).  She says that its unnecessary removing my fibroids. One thing, I also have another OB who says I should have my fibroids removed before trying to get pregnant. She says that it is risky to fall pregnant or will cause miscarriage when I have fibroids (again, I had miscarriage last yr at 3mos-I already had the fibroids then)

I am pretty confused now which to follow?

It is ironic when I have found the right guy for me but then my body has issues which contradicts our plans for a family.  I am also scared my guy will leave me if I cant have any child.

He wants to marry me but then I have second thoughts bec if I cant give him a child, it will just ruin our marriage. I have become a paranoid since I had my miscarriage. I feel like I have lost half of my womanhood from that incident. It just lowered my self esteem.

Any advice I will deeply appreciate.  Thank you.

I miscarried 2 yrs ago at 18 wks, I'm 33 wks now expecting a boy in July. At my first ultra sound I found out I have fibroids, which the specialist and ob said it was fine there's no threat to my baby. I understand not feeling confident to carry another baby after a loss but for some reason I have hyper thyroid and I was using birth control when I found out I was pregnant with my lil guy. If you have concerns he would leave you because of this you should talk to him and tell him your concerns to clear the air so he knows how you feel. I'm sure he's going to understand where you're coming from and most likely will still be by your side. Good luck to you!

Thanks for your very inspiring message.  I have seen my 3rd Ob Gyne & she too has advised me not to have my fibroids removed as they are small.
It's a good news to me that u conceived at 40 (and after 3 m/c).  It gives me a lot of hope. Im turning 41 next year & hopefully we'll have our tiny miracle by then.

Thank u. I have seen another OB Gyne, (my 3rd opinion that is), and after an ultrasound I was told that my fibroids have shrunk so its not necessary to remove them. We will be trying soon for a baby & hope before the year ends we'll have good news.

Depending on where the fibroids are within your uterus, they can cause infertility and increase risk of miscarriage.

The best way to tell is an MRI. If your haven't had an MRI (an ultrasound will not be accurate enough) your doctors are guessing.

You should ask for a 2nd opinion for the fibroids.

And maybe you should discuss the hypothetic possibility with your boyfriend if you can't conceive. At 40 you still have good chances to conceive but a honest discussion with him should help.

I conceived my son (1st child) at 40, almost 41 after 3 miscarriages.

Good luck!!

Well...if you have time to have the fibroids removed and heal before you plan on TTC then i would...esp if you had a M/C last year at three months...depending on their location...it can cause probs...

When we were ttc #3 I consulted with 4 doctors and doctor #4 was the winner so to speak.  Like the above poster suggested a specialist may be the best way to go.  Good luck to you.

It might be a good idea to consult a fertility specialist (reproductive endochronologist) for an opinion.  They know a lot more about issues effecting fertility and your chances of getting pregnant than your normal OB does.
