Is yoga safe?

I'm really confused with what I can do to work out. I used to do hot yoga but have switched to the warm room instead. I'm confused now as to being on my back for part of the class. Everything I read says yoga is safe but not to be on your back.(?) The prenatal class doesn't start until March. Will I know if I've been on my back too long?

I was practicing yoga prior to being pregnant and I will continue. I follow a few women on Instagram who are currently pregnant and still practicing yoga. They show modified poses. It looks safe.

Talk to your doctor about your specific situation.

Mr dr. says no prolonged exercise on your back - i.e., not more than 5 minutes each set.  I do prenatal Pilates and am on my back for some of the class. I also still lift weights and do my bench press (which is on my back). I don't feel uncomfortable or dizzy when I am on my back for those activities. If you ever feel dizzy or off while on your back, stop immediately. Your dr has to give you clearance though. Talk to him/her about exercising.

First and foremost, you need to talk to your doctor about this.

I was told "no" exercise at all when lying on my back after 20 weeks - no other exercise restrictions.  And yes, the reason is the pressure can cut off a major artery leading to baby.  Sleeping on your back is fine, just no exercising on your back.  Your dr should be able to advice you on whether some of the yoga poses are restricted.

Agree with the above. Talk to your instructor for modifications! Example, savasana can be laying on your side but I rather put my legs up on the wall and relax :)

34 weeks and still going. Just talk to your instructor, as you hit your third trimester you need to swap out the exercises on your back as they engage your core muscles (which you no longer have much control over) and strain your back muscles. Nothing to do with the baby's safety, it's about yours!

I did yoga but once your belly gets big you need to buy a prenatal yoga video that is for big bellies.

At the hospital and Dr they have you lay on your back. It is just not good to sleep all night on your back.

So then it's just about being uncomfortable on your back? I've read you can cut circulation off to your baby. Is that true?

I'm 26 weeks and can still lay on my back comfortably for a time. I did hot yoga with my first until about 16 weeks. Then my tummy started getting in the way.
