Labetalol

Hi, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure about 2 months or so before I found out that I was pregnant. I immediately stopped taking the Norvasc and Hydroclorothiazide that I was prescribed after finding out that I was pregnant. I'm 9 weeks now and was recently prescibed Labetalol 200mg twice a day. I am soooooooo skeptical about taking any meds while pregnant although my doctor tells me that there are no side effects and that it won't effect my unborn baby. Does anyone else take BP or any other meds? What are your thoughts on meds and pregnancy?

I take it and it works and me and my baby are fine. I rather take it then have a stroke or have a miscarriage because my bp was so high. Please if u have high bp take the medicine and pray everything will be ok.

I am on 500 MG twice a day I am currently 36 weeks and 5 days. I have taken the medication since I was 6 weeks pregnant. My baby girl is healthy...I have had a lot of complications during my pregnancy but not because of the medications.

I used to take HZT (hydrochlorthizide) too for Bp with my last pregnancy that ended in miscarriage last year. I stopped taking it I changed my diet and drank lots of water and now expecting my son any day now and I never took Bp meds with this pregnancy. I believe my meds was a factor for that pregnancy loss

While I, too, have my concerns taking medications during pregnancy, please know that labetolol is in a class of BP meds called beta-blockers and are the primary class of drug to treat high blood pressure during pregnancy. Without that medication, the effects to you and your baby can be deadly.

I didn't want to take meds either but when you weigh up the positives and negatives, I felt it was in my baby's best interest. You are on a much higher dose than I am (100mg once daily) and your doctor wouldn't put you on that if they didn't feel it was warranted. I felt that I shouldn't have been put on it as I've always maintained it well without meds and only had one high reading during a very stressful doctors visit, before and after was always normal. But I'd rather that than develop pre - eclampsia.  Maybe go back and discuss it with them if you are still unsure.

I had high blood pressure prior to pregnancy. My ob took me off my bp meds and I have been monitored and considered high risk because of this along with a few other health issues. I am currently 38wks and 4 days. My blood pressure was high fri and I will more than likely be induced at 39 wks.
