Ovulation predictor

Hi, I am 35 and married. We want to get pregnant. I have been using the ovulation predictor from the 14th day of my cycle and keep getting negative markers till now and today is the 21st day. I am testing twice a day, taking prenatals. Any experience with the ovulation predictors? How accurate are they? Should I be worried?

Please help..

Thanks..

I honestly don't know 100%.  The kit said after getting a positive there was no need to keep testing, so until the last time I used them, I didn't bother.  In April (when I got pregnant with this baby), out of curiosity I kept testing, and it stayed positive for 3 days. I am not sure if you can actually ovulate during this time, or afterwards, but I do know you usually don't ovulate for 12-72 hours after receiving the first positive. We kept on bd'ing, (every day from the first day I got a positive) even for 3 or 4 days after it turned negative again, and it worked.  I am 7 weeks pregnant now.  Best of luck to you!

Hi again,
Thanks so much for the relevant responses to my first query regarding Ovulation Predictor.
I'd like to know if I test positive with my OPK on a certain day after the first day of my last period, for how many subsequent days usually the test will stay positive?
Even after I test positive once, do you recommend I keep on testing every subsequent day?
Appreciate a prompt reply ...thanks

I agree as well you should start using it before day 14.  My RE had me start them from day 8 and on to begin with to narrow it down... i now know i ovulate about day 14.. so now i use them starting with day 11... it sounds like you are just missing the reading by a day possibly.   Im 38 and pregnant using the opk.

I also prefer the clear blue easy digital...it gives you either a smiley face, or a blank face...so easy to read.  OPK's tell you when you are having your LH surge, so you will usually ovulate 12-48 hours after getting a positive.  If you have a 28 day cycle, you should start using it on day 11.  I have used the clear blue successfully 3 times now.

Best of luck to you.

they are more accurate if you use them the same time every day not in the morning.....better between 1-8 PM and like I said do them the same time...but used correctly they are very accurate.....I'm pregnant b/c of them

I didnt' use the OPK but i did do the BBT.  that worked the best w/ me and really helped me to get to know my cycles. it was time consuming (kind of) but I just didn't want to put the money out for an OPK.  i agree to read instructions and maybe do the BBT w/ the OPK.  :)

I think you are suppose to start the OPK about 4 to 5 days before you ovulate - so if you ovulate usually on the 14th day you should start to POAS around day 10 or 11.  That is counting from the first day of your period
Read the instructions carefully - the sticks work pretty well.  I find First Response a reliable OPK.

I found the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" extremely helpful when we were trying to get pregnant. (www.tcoyf.com) There is an excellent charting system provided as well as some very useful information. The charting can help you pinpoint ovulation more accurately in addition to the ovulation predictor kits. Best wishes.
