Pain Managment and Pregnancy

I have been diagnosed with severe cervical dystonia (not to forget the migraines I have had since I was 13) - I am 41 and 20 weeks pregnant with my second little girl.  I took botox injections in the neck and shoulder plus muscle relaxants and some narcotic pain medication as needed before getting pregnant -- and imitrex for the headaches.

My OB has given me lortab to take and she feels comfortable with it on a an as needed basis.  I am looking for some more comfort that this ok -- I took it with my first baby as well -- but still.  She also gave me the option of tramadol.  My neurologist feels fine about the botox injections as she says botox stays within the muscle only and does not travel to distant sites or in the blood stream.....advice?  Also, anyone out there who has had to manage pain through pregnancy?

Thanks!

I know quite a bit about this subject.  I too had to have pain management during my entire pregnancy.  My heart goes out to you.  I'm no dr or pharmacist (my husband is) but if your dr is prescribing Loratab for you, I'm positive it's safe for you and your baby.  I take much more potent drugs unfortunately for my pain which was successfully managed during my pregnancy.

The botox - I don't know much about that.  I thought it was category "c" but benefit always outweighs the risks so again, trust your neurologist & ob.  After re-reading your entry, since it is going into the muscle, I'm sure it's fine.  I too have had injections directly into the surrounding cervical muscles (not fun) but I'm pretty sure it wasn't botox.

If I can offer any further support, please don't hesitate to contact me and welcome to the forum - jen

Hello, welcome to the forum.  I can't offer any comments regarding pain management during your pregnancy.  I would think and hope that what has been prescribed to you by your OB is safe and harmless for you and baby.  I do wish you a healthy and uneventful remainder of your pregnancy, and please keep us posted.
