help, i really need advice!

I am prescribed hydrocodone for degenerative disc and rheumatoid arthritis pain, when i found out i was pregnant I cut back to one a day when i wake up because i can barely get out of bed. My doctors nurses review meds at every appointment and this has been part of my file the entire pregnancy. My doctor never said anything with regards to my medicine so when he came in the room as the nurses were preparing me for a c section, one of the nurses mentioned about me taking hydrocodone and he acted completely surprised& said he wished he had know that because he wouldve had me stop taking them, then he turned to me and said how many do you take a day and be honest. I was shocked at his behavior, treating me like im some junkie crackhead.  I answered one. So after baby is born the hospital pediatrician informed me that i did in fact test positive for opiates, the baby tested negatIve& has been tested daily& shown zero signs of withdrawl. However the staff pediatrician informed me that baby will have to stay an extra 7 days to be monitored for withdrawl. I am so upset, not only because my ob didnt inform me of any of this and then acted as if he didnt know but mainly that i can not stand the thought of leaving here tomorrow without my baby. Dont i have any rights? I need Advice, i would like to contact an attorney but i just have no idea where to begin

The 7 day period is for your babies saftey it can take days for your baby to start to show symptoms also it really ***** your doctor did not pay attention to that your WHOLE prgnancy when you rake meds like that your baby needs extra monitoring through out pregnanct. I have rheumatoid arthritis is as well and take the same meds. I think this situation is neglacence in your doctors part. I hope that as long as your baby shows bo  symptoms you can take them home Sooner. Also breastfeed is highly recommended and can help reduce the chance of baby having symptoms

Idiots. How could he have missed something so major? My guess is he didn't and just ignored it. Every time I go to the OB they ask me what meds I'm taking and how much. It's gets aggravating but now I see why. Thanks for sharing.

Wow!!! I'm sorry that happened to U. Glad baby is ok though. But they R being cautious by keepn the baby. A baby that has withdrawl is a lot to deal wit trust me I use to be a foster mom and I had a baby like that. They cry a lot and there's nothing U can do. It's from Whateva drug they were on n the womb. I know it's hard to leave hospital w/out UR baby it happened to my first child at the last check up b4 I was leavn the cardio doc realize he had a heart murmur I was devastated he stayed 3 XTRA days I've never cried so much n my life but I was there everyday all day til he came home. At my hospital there was no time limit a Parent could stay which made me feel a lil better. See if UR hospital is like that. It would help U tremendously. Trust in the doctors. Good luck!!!!

I would be upset too. Although your dr was rude to you and  should've paid closer attention to medications/drugs you were on, unfortunately now it's past that and you and baby are healthy. I do believe the hospital has the right to keep the baby for extra days... Talk to the hospital see how long everyday you can stay w/ the baby perhaps even over night. They really are keeping the baby for the best health of the baby. Do you have a pediatrician yet for the baby? Call & talk to them also. My pediatrician came to the hospital when I had my baby, to check on her. perhaps yours can?? Perhaps baby will come home sooner than the 7 days depending on how she is doing.
