Percocet and Pregnancy... what happened?

Hello, I am new to this but I have been reading posts for weeks. I was wondering, what happened to the women who were worried because they were pregnant and taking prescribed pain killers? Are the babies ok? I would really like to hear from you all because I am currently 30 weeks pregnant and prescribed percocet for severe back problems.

It is a sign of the wonderful mother you will be that you are thinking that way.  However, please remember, mommy being in constant pain causes high stress, and that is no good for baby either.  Try to work with your Dr. so that you are minimizing doses, but still staying comfortable.  Happy and healthy mommas make healthy and happy babies.  You are important too!

Thanks everyone :) my OB knows that I'm on percocet but I hate it when he says 'baby may be a little dependent, no big deal' cause it is a big deal to me! I'm actually working on lowering my dosage from 4-6 10mg to 4-6 5mg and I want to keep lowering my dosage! It's hard cause in dying here but I've rather be in pain than have my baby suffer from withdrawals!

Many of those posters tend not to follow up.  I too wish they would, it's hard not knowing how someones story comes out.

I can tell you though, that there are many women who require pain medication such as percocet during pregnancy.  When taken under a Dr.'s care there is almost always a good outcome.  It's when drugs are abused or inproperly used that the problem can begin.  When the Dr. and delivering hospital knows, there are steps they can take to help the baby adjust when born.  That way women like Brigadiva have healthy and undamaged children.  Just make sure you are working with your Dr. and never try to stop cold turkey, or stop at all without a Dr.'s help.  good luck!!

Well, I have not had this baby yet (my third).  Going for induction in Tuesday.  But I have been on Percocet during my other two pregnancies also, for kidney blockage, and both of my children are very healthy and had no complications (Now 9 and 4 years old :o)  I do not take it every day, only sparingly if I absolutely need to (and am thrilled that I haven't needed any of it for two weeks).  But I do know people who had to take much larger doses than I have been prescribed (5mg - 10 mg per dose every 4-6 hours as needed) and have taken that multiple times daily and their baby was absolutely fine with no signs of withdrawal!  Of course, every case is different, and I don't know what your dosage is, but I am sure your doctors would not give you something that was bad for your baby.  They always had to reassure me that being in excruciating pain was worse for my baby and likely to case miscarriage for me to take it, so I understand your concern.  But as long as your doctor is ok with what you are taking I think you can have peace of mind that baby will do great!

I didn't see that post so I can't be much help.  However, talk with you OB GYN about the percocet and your pharmacist.
