Please share your experience with FertilAid or Vitex

I had been using Clomid (100mg) and I was ovulating and having a regular cycle for a few months.  Now, everything has decided to stop and I didn't O this past month.  Super frustrating.  I called my OB's office and I guess I'm done with Clomid as she referred me to a fertility center to do an IUI.  But that doesn't solve my non-ovulation issue!  Before I dive into injectibles and go through that emotional roller coaster, I thought I would try some more natural remedies.

I feel like my hormones must be really out of whack (which isn't anything new for me) so I'm hoping something will work!

I use vitex to help my cycles out.  Without it I never get any ewcm.  When I take it I get it in abundance and I don't get pms nearly as bad as when I'm not taking it.  I used it when I was trying to get pregnant with my daughter as well because I wasn't really having periods and it did help with that.  I think with vitex, you just have to be careful to take it during the right time in your cycle.  To help ovulation, everything I have read says to take it during the weeks before you ovulate and then stop when you are in the tww.  That is what I do.  Also, you shouldn't take it when pregnant.  Its not expensive and you can get it at any vitamin store so if it doesn't work, you haven't lost much.

Thanks all for your responses!  I think I'll try the Vitex because as some of you mentioned, it's basically FertilAid at much less cost.  can't hurt, I guess.  I do have more refills of Prometrium to induce a period so I may try that first, but there have been months where even that hasn't worked.

Amanda: Ya know, she didn't mention anything about concern or lack of concern.  I think the issue here is since I'm not responding to a high dose of Clomid, that other avenues need to be looked at.  I know the IUI procedure is simple, but without ovulation, it could be another long, drawn out process.

Fadingsun:  Thanks for your tip on timing of Vitex.  I'll look into that further as well.  I guess I can just start taking it now since I'm really nowhere with a cycle?  Meaning, I'm on CD 37 of nothing...never O'ed, BFN and AF hasn't arrived either.

Tried for abt three months by estimating my ovulation date, started fertil aid in month two (2/3rds of the dose), did opk and used special lube (my mind has gone blank on the name), one key thing i'd like to mention on the lube that i can't remember the name of....... is that it specifically says no saliva should mix with it.

so successful month..... month four of trying...... fertil aid on board, did opk, had sex once and used the lube.  date of opk was one week before my 39th birthday.

the name of the lube will come to me the minute i hit post

I get my period so randomly that it feels impossible for me to get pregnant. I just went 7 months and finally got it. I took Fertilaid after 5 months of no AF and after 2 bottles/ 2 months it came which was the 7 months. I skip anywhere between 2 and 9 months of getting AF. I hate it but I have become hopeless with my situation and trying over and over and over again. I stopped taking the pills but I think I might start again. i don't know whether it brought on my period or not but what else can i do? my doctors only tell me birth control will regulate me but how does that help me get pregnant?!  Then she says go to the fertility specialist which is $350 just to speak with them. Noone knows anything about this problem so I have tried doing what I can on my own. Fertilaid has vitex and chasteberry in it so it can't hurt to try it for a period of time to see if it will be the magic cure. It's only $30 a bottle/ 1 month. Good luck

I have never tried either, so no help here.  I can tell you though, that I have heard fertileaid is pretty much a waste of money, but that many feel vitex is very effective.  Again, no personal experience with either, so this is only based on what others have told me.  I am curious as to whether your OB was concerned about one month of not ovulating?  I have read that it does happen to all of us from time to time and isn't cause for concern.  Curious as to whether she shares this opinion?
