Small Stomach On Ultrasound

Hello, I was hoping to get your opinion on this...I have a high risk pregnancy since I am in my forties.  Everything has been great so far and baby has done well on all tests except with my last two ultrasounds at 27 weeks and then again at 31 weeks they said the babys stomach is a little small ( just slighty under average).  First they said it could be the baby had not swallowed amniotic fluid at time of ultrasound but now that it's happened twice I am a bit worried.  Everything else has been normal including amniotic fluid levels...the doctors said worst case scenario the baby would need surgery at birth, but after looking on the Internet about this condition it seems to be very serious and dangerous...has anyone had a similar situation? or know anything about this subject? Please get back to me, it would be so helpful as I am very worried. Looking forward to your responses. Take Care, Annie

Hi, thank you so much for your messge and the encouragement.  I'm so glad your story had a happy ending and your 8 year old is doing fine! I am a bit worried that they say my baby may have a Esophageal Stenosis or Tracheaesophageal Fistula.  I will remain hopeful and pray that my little boy is born strong and healthy. Take Care

Thank you so much for responding... I am a bit down and worried with my situation.  I should be about 32 weeks now.  I spoke to the doctor yesterday who said my amniotic fluid is a little high at 22 and babys stomach a little smaller than average so they say I will have to wait til he's delivered to see if there are any abnormalities.  They suspect esophageal stenosis or Tracheaesophageal fistula so I am very worried.  I pray that it is a mis-diagnosis and thar my little boy is born perfectly healthy.  Take Care

I had a high risk pregnancy for my youngest.  I know that this may not help you at all and I have no answers or a response to your baby's stomach being small, however, I do want to share the ordeal I went through with this high risk pregnancy.  I was told my son will have down syndrome.  I was even referred to the most high tech ultrasound technician in the city.  I was told the same thing.  Well, the end result was not a downs baby.  My son is just fine and 8 years old.  Good luck to you.  I pray that your little one is born healthy and strong!

Hello, I just wanted to reply to your post as I had the fear of god put into me when I was pregnant with our son 3 yrs ago, I was 38 going on 39 years old and our baby was fine up to 28-30 weeks, then at a midwife check up , she thought baby was very small. So I went for extra ultrasound and was told the baby's stomach very small and how much was I eating!! they then continued to scan me every week until week 38 when I had a cesarian birth. Baby was fine, just a small baby, and considering I am only small its not surprising. We were only in hospital for 2 days and Alfie is now 2 yrs old, they really scared me with all the talk of small this small that. your situation may be different but tht was my experince of being told my baby had a small stomach. best wishes and I hope all goes well for you and baby, melissax  p.s we are now trying again for a sibling, I am 41 yrs now and have had no sucess as yet, dr's give you no hope for a baby in your 40's but I read here that you are of this age group.
