LADIES 40+ IUI W/ STIMS SUCCESS STORY...

Greetings Ladies...

I'm trying to find out if there's anyone on the site who is 40+ and had a successful IUI w/o using stimulation meds(natural cycle, but w/IUI portion). I'm trying to decide if I want to try this route. I've been informed that if there are success stories of this particular tx., they are extremly low. These RE's are always so enthusiastic when it comes to women 40+ receiving Fertility Tx. ;o) Thanks in advance for any information you are willing to share.

Cheers~

I just recently had a IUI and unfortunately it is unsuccessful.  I am 42 years old and I have one boy who is 8 years old.  I do not know why in the world that it did not occur to me that I should have one more because now my son is looking for a sibling.  It breaks my heart whenever he ask me if he can have a brother or a sister!  My advice to you and to all the women out there to try on your 30's before its too late and have you second one as soon as you can.  Dont wait to be in my situation coz it really make you feel miserable.  Thanks.

Just wanted to give you an update.  My 2nd u/s went well today.  We have a heartbeat.  The baby is still measuring a week behind, so I'm not out of the woods yet.  I go back next week for another u/s and it could still go either way.  I am cautiously optimistic.

Sorry about your losses...that is the hardest part. I'm not sure what my numbers are, but will have it double checked by the RE. I, like you had a friend who became pregnant naturally @ 46 & had no complications during her birthing. Thanks so much for sharing your information. Much Babydust to you.

Cheers~

What is your FSH?  Mine was 6.7 which is very good for my age.  I started trying when I was 39.  My very first Clomid IUI cycle was successful, but it turned out to be a chemical pregnancy.  I tried 4 more Clomid IUI, unsuccessful. Then after turning 40 I tried an injectable(Gonal F) IUI cycle, it too was unsuccessful.  Since I had been trying for over a year, I decided not to waste any more time and go with IVF.  I had the embryo transfer 6/7/08 and it was successful and my HCG levels were great this time.  However, when I went for my first u/s on Monday they could not find a fetal pole or heatbeat.  I go for a second u/s this Monday to see if there is any change or if the preganncy is no longer viable.

I don't mean to sound negative, but my experience over 40 has not been easy.  I would certainly try the least invasive and inexpensive options first.  However, don't waste on lot of time if you don't have success.  I would start getting more aggressive after a couple of trys.  Egg quality diminishes rapidly after 35, so every month is important.

On a positive note, I do have a friend who got pregnant all on her own at 46!!!  She had been told since her late twenties that is was going to very hard for her to conceive. She had a host of issues, tilted uterus, severe endometriosis, fibroids, etc.  Then after 40 she assumed she was too old along with her other issues and stopped worrying about birth control.  SURPRISE.....she now has a beautiful and healthy 2 year old little boy.   There are stories out there of people who conceive with no trouble over 40, but they are few compared to all of us who are trying.  I wish I had started trying much earlier.  Good Luck and I hope you are one of the FEW!!!!!!

The fertility forum might be your best bet.  I did IVF, am over 40, and had success.  I don't have any experience with what you're going through.  Good luck.
