Protein S

I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks 6 months a go. It was detected that I had low protein s level which could have been responsible. There was a heart beat at 6 week i think it was 61bps which from research seems a bit low. at 38 i am really trying for a  baby is there any dietary advice that couls help..and how badly can this affect a successful pregnancy..what are my options?

Hi Kathy.  Protein S is fairly common from what I understand.  It makes you more prone to blood clots.  I also have it as well as an issue with MTHFR.  I would talk to your doctor about taking a baby aspirin everyday as well as whether or not you have a vitamin k deficiency.  I also take extra folic acid and you might mention that as well.  If protein s was responsible for this loss, then taking these steps, if your doctor approves, might help. I'm so sorry for your loss.  Good luck to you.

I also have a protien S deficiency, and had to take blood thinners for the 6-week period post-partum (didn't need to during pregnancy itself, although if I'd ever had a thrombosis (I haven't) I would have had to do that too.
Something to be aware of!

No problem.  If you want to research it look up thrombophilia on the internet.  You will find information about blood clotting disorders including Protein S deficiency. :)

Hi fad, thanks for your response i have been on a couple of forum and this is the first time I have had someone respond to me. i tried researching on it but the medical terms do nothing to help. I will take your line of thought into consideration on my next dr visit. thank you so so much

I should also mention that, women with thrombosis issues usually take blood thinner throughout pregnancy to prevent blood clots.  I had 2 successful pregnancies without doing this, but I was a lot younger and age does factor into the risks. Just make sure you go to your doctor armed with plenty of research.
