Questions about testing

Since most of you all are around my age and have probably gone through as much infertility testing as I have.  I am curious to hear what test your doctors have order before to test infertility issues.

I've had:

4 HSG's -- one tube blocked but now open
2 laproscopic surguryies for endometriosis
blood clotting disorder test--- came back negative
chromosome abnormality test-- came back negative
4 complete hormone blood test panels ran (tested twice before ovulation & twice after ovulation.)-all came back normal
ultra sounds to check egg development and release-- all normal.

The only test I can find that I have not had was the endometrial lining biopsy.

I'm on prenatal and additional folic acid and of course the baby asprin once a day.   The doctor had me on prometrium last time I got pregnant in Nov because of low progesterone however with this pregnancy my levels were 24.3 so progesterone deficiency is now ruled out like they first thought.   I haven't had any problems getting pregnant lately, it seems like the older I am the more fertile I am.  Never been on birth control my entire life and I'm 36.

As soon as I get pregnant, I get horrible migraines and extremely bloated with a very tender abdomine.  I immediately have problems being comfortable buttoning my pants.  I just don't feel that is normal however they keep telling me that being bloated is normal along with the migraines and back pains.

I don't know... any thoughts or testing I should ask my specialist about?  I've had to switch to a new doctor since moving to a new state last year so it's almost like starting all over again.

I'm going to ask my RE on Monday what they think and if they even will consider doing the uterine biopsy. I suppose it can't hurt to ask since that is the only test I have never received.

Piggy---I've had the lupron shot and that was not a fun experience at all.

I was also considering starting to take vitamin B6 since that seems to be helpful with the lining.  Hopefully next time everything works out.

I had the uterine biopsy test.  I'm going to be very honest with you.  It hurt. Plain and simple.  I nearly sat straight up when he did this, and the first try did not yield enough specimen, so he had to do it again.  It was one of the first times I wanted to just reach over and smack my RE.

Mine came back postive, so I had to go on 3 months of Lupron.  I had to do this because my test revealed I was missing a protein in my lining.  Or something like that.  I also have had since then 3 IUI's which were unsucessful with one ending in mc.

It cost me about 400 for the test and 600 for each monthly shot of Lupron which is given intramuscular (in da but!).  Now what is interesting is that I am now under the care of another RE in my town (top 2 I would say) and his nurse said they don't even do this test!!!!  She said "well, Dr. so and so does things a little different than Dr. so and so.

hmmmm.   interesting.  But honestly, it hurt.  sorry. (and I considered my 2 HSG's a walk in the park compared to this!)

My testing has all been for recurrent loss, so it's a bit different.  However, I have had most of what you had, plus a hysteroscopy (camera inserted into the uterus) as well as genetic testing between my DH and myself.  I feel like I am part human pin cushion and part lab rat. Honest to God, at one point I looked like a junkie I had so many needle marks on my arms!

I have never had the uterine lining biopsy before.  I'm wondering why I've had all the other test and not the biopsy.   I've mentioned this to my new doctor to see what he thinks.  I feel that if my lining says that it's 6 DPO and my body is saying that I should be on 8 DPO than when I start my cycle my uterine lining is coming up short.  So when it should be allowing the egg to implant it's really not ready for it.  This is the only thing that I can think that maybe causing me to constantly miscarry early on.

I was curious about the uterine lining biopsy.  How did they do the procedure and any other information about it.

Did you have endometriosis?  I've have mild endometriosis and the first surgery there were a lot of adhesions and scar tissue.  My second surgery they found some mild adhesions however they were able to unblock my tube while they were in there removing the adhesions.

with the exception of the laporoscopy I have had all those tests, a ton of lab work, mock trial transfer, uterine lining biopsy, and then some.  I've since lost count.

I've also got the migraines, bloating, and back pain...but I'm pregnant so that's probably why.   When I was taking injectibles i'd get migraines and bloating.

Not quite sure what you're issue actually is, however.

The only other test I can think of is were they test that the sperm can penetrate the egg, but since you aren't having any problems getting pg, that isn't a problem for you.. My problem was never staying pg, it was getting there that i struggle with, so I really don't know a lot of m/c.

As for the bloating.. i would agree with your dr that it is very normal. I was extremely bloated during the early part of both of my pgs.. Looks like you are sporting a beer gut or something..

best of luck to you

i have no exp with LPD - sorry. but i have mc 3 times with no cause. which everyone says is cruel but means it is the egg itself and not anything permanent.  and i do bloat up right away. i did not fit in my clothes almost immediately despite what all the books said about "not showing or needing any maternity stuff until 4/5 months." good luck.

Back in Feb this year the RE did a bunch of test, took about 20 vials of blood.  They did the testing for auto-immune all came back normal.

Has anyone ever had the endometrial lining biopsy before?  I've heard that if even if your cycles are pretty regular that sometimes the lining may be off by a few days which would act as a luteal phase defect.  Normally if you have a LPD women miscarry early which is normally my problem.  I normally will miscarry unless they put me on prometrium around 5 weeks pregnant.

My progesterone levels start out strong sometimes but will always end up falling.

yep and everything came back normal for him.  They even did the chromosome testing on him too.  His test results came back all normal so I guess it's me that has something wrong.
