Maternity 21 testing

Has anyone ever had a false positive with this test? I am 36 years old and we just received news today that the maternity 21 test showed an 80% chance our baby is positive for Down Syndrome. They want us to do an amniocentesis and we are choosing not to. We know that will give us a more definitive answer but we don't feel it's worth the risk. Please any advice is greatly appreciated.

Ah, well... Just keep eating healthy so you're both healthy and try not to worry then. You recently had a perfectly healthy baby girl so I don't see why this baby wouldn't be. You said the issues were common and can resolve as baby grows, so trust that baby will be fine.

Don't stress, it's not good you either of you. I didn't have those tests either and due to my schedule missed good chunks of ultrasounds, not that I like them anyway. I also decided that I was blessed with this baby and I'll trust that all will be well because I'm not giving up lil girl either way.

If the ultrasounds were recent, try having a look again in a week or two, or when you can. Hopefully the issues will have resolved and you can be free of stress.

Ive also heard of tye false positives which makes this morw frustratung. I am already 22 weeks. I am past that the nuchal translucency test. I had a perfectly healthy baby girl 9 and a half months ago and never did any of the testings. The only reason I did this test is bc they recommended it after they saw 2 abnormalities on my ultrasound.  The abnormalities they found can be vert common in perfectly healthy babies and typically resolve as the baby grows.  I wish I hadn't done the test now that I am going to be stressed the rest of my pregnancy and still have no definitive answers. It's so frustrating. I just want her to be healthy and all we can do now is pray. :(

I've read stories of false positives. My relatives that are older gave birth to perfectly healthy babies without issues and they were past 36 yrs old during their pregnancies... That was before testing was done for these things.

I definitely don't think the risk from the amniocentesis is worth it either. How far along are you? I know they like to take a look at nuchal translucency as well between 11-14 weeks to determine issues as well but that also comes with its own margin of errors but safer for sure.

I hope everything turns out well for you and you have a perfectly healthy baby.
