Strange question regarding insemination at home

Sorry-this seems TMI but I need to really tell it like it is.  I tried getting PG this past cycle and it is the 2WW. doubtful that it would happen right away, but I am on Femara. I am single, and do have a donor that lives nearby and has been tested for everything, and he is taking this seriously, unlike most guys that inquired. Because I have HSV1 (never had any symptoms or anything but a blood test confirmed it), he doesnt want to have intercourse, which is understandable. Well I had a positive OPK, did BBT, and RE said I had three follicles so he thought I'd be releasing more than one egg. I am uneasy about shoving a catheter into my cervix (ouch!) not to mention, i dont want an infection. Sooo, I did get some sterile cups from a nearby medical supply store. My donor ejaculated in it and immediately,  I put it in me. Since droppers are too small,  I used one of those applicators for yeast cream- I injected alot of sperm into me as far as it would go,, I had my hips elevated, and laid down for about 20 mins afterwards. I also used a big syringe and used that along with the applicator on both days we tried. I may get one of those cervical caps used for at home insemination, and I also heard those "Instead" cups can be used also. Whats everyone's opinions on this? Also, blah, it seems that night, semen was kind of coming out! Ugh- I have never had this stuff in me so I guess this is normal to have some come out later, and even the next day. Am I right?  I am going to try at home for a couple of cycles, then some medicated IUI's if this doesnt work. Thanks

Ok.. thanks for your responses. I am not a lesbian but it's ok. lol. Just single.. Me and the donor did a contract- he was adamant about it and he said he will stick around for a few cycles but Im only going to try for a couple, and then move on to IUI. It looks like I did everything right, those applicators for Monistat (yeast infection cream) work great since they're long. Droppers are too small and my syringe seemed to work ok too but I didnt tap any air bubbles out.. I will next time. I may try a catheter like thing to put on the end but I think what Im using is ok. And yes, I put the sperm in within a minute or two of him ejaculating into the sterile cup.. I dont waste any time. Well I will keep you updated as to what happens. Thanks!

Hi there,

There is a women here on MH who has successfully conceived through home insemination.  She was kind enough to post her method in a journal for anyone who is interested.  It also covers things like sterilization, and just how to do it safely.  Here is the link for you!

I do think most of what you are experiencing is pretty normal.  I am also really glad you have found a donor who is taking this seriously.  I truly truly hope this works for you and your dream comes true!  Please keep posting and let us know how this turns out.  I just had surgery which leaves me unable to ttc naturally for a few months (too painful) and am considering home insemination myself.  I am really interested in your story, and again, wish you much success!  Good luck!

I thought right away that you were lesbian but who am I to judge? I actually have a friend who is lesbian and her partner got pregnant the exact same way with a gay doner! They actually used a long very thin dropper long enough to go pretty far inside. Their little boy is now 2 1/2 years old. Very cute little boy. It can happen! One advice I do have is, get your legal paperwork done before you conceive with this doners sperm. Good luck

I can answer some of this but not all. Yes it is normal for semen to come out the next day. It sounds to me like you've done as much as you can but i have no idea about this stuff. I assume there are some websites that would help you. Lesbian sites maybe?

Take care.
