Cramping and some bleeding - should I cancel amnio?

Hi all,
I am nearly 16 weeks. I have an amnio scheduled for Monday (my risk of DS was estimated to be 1 in 30, based on my age and NT measurement).

Yesterday, I had some bleeding and cramping and went to the hospital emergency room. They told me to stay in bed for the next two days.... (today and tomorrow). Bleeding has stopped, but I still have some cramping.

My question is -- should I go ahead with Monday's amnio, given what has happened? The ER doctor said Yes, as did my regular doctor's office when I called there. But I am not sure. Am interested to hear your thoughts!

Good day Ms. Lady.

Why are you having the amnio? We would all have a high rate for ds, it is a study that computes age and other factors. If you do not feel safe about it then put it off. There is nothing you can do about the ds situation except abort or accept. I say put if off until you feel better about the situation.

Hi all
I went ahead with the amnio yesterday, and although it was unpleasant, it was quick. Am now taking it easy at home. Results will be ~2 weeks.
Thanks for your advice!

I too would go ahead.  I bled throughout my entire pregnancy almost, but especially first trimester.  I also had amnio and had no complications.  Most bleeding comes from the cervix (when it's not a loss).  So if at the emergency room your cervix was closed and baby was fine, I don't think amnio could hurt anything.  I did experience some mild cramping after amnio, but that is pretty normal.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

From one Molly to another.... I would listen to my dr at this point   Make sure to tell the dr that is performing the amnio what has been going on. They should really be the one to help you decide.         I wish you lots of luck and please keep me informed. Will keep you in my thoughts
