Too much weight gain?

I'm 22 weeks pregnant with twins. I've been gaining weight steadily at 1-2 pounds per week, but I weighed myself this morning & it shows a 9-pound weight gain since just last Monday. I don't mind gaining as long as it's okay. I was surprised to see 9 pounds, though & immediately thought my scale was wrong ;-) Haha! I'm petite & carrying twins, so maybe at almost 23 weeks, it's more common? I just don't know. Any thoughts?

Oh that is good news! Sounds like either a temporary issue with water retention, or a funky scale. :)

Thanks, ladies! :)  I was too busy at work yesterday & couldn't check back in, but I appreciate all your responses.  I am swelling a bit.  My feet are huge by the end of the day...  I weighed myself again when I got home from work yesterday & it was much less, so I decided to wait til this morning to weigh myself again.  By this morning's weight, I actually only gained 4 pounds, which is more like it! =)  I guess something was off with my scale yesterday morning.  I did call my ob, but she wasn't in yesterday & will most likely call me today, but the nurse & doc on call said 9 pounds is not the usual, but I shouldn't be worried about it & just to watch what I eat.  I have to admit, it was a shock to see such a difference & I'm glad it looks more normal now :)  I have already gained approx 32 pounds, which I know is just fine since I'm carrying twins.  Thanks again!!!

I agree with oceanv.  A 9 Ib weight gain in such a short period of time is due to water retention.  If you continue to put on weight rapidly or notice other symptoms (swelling, headache, or anything else out-of-the-ordinary) then you need to call your doctor.

Are you swelling up? I had a lot of weight gain that was due to water retention. Since I was within 6 pounds of my pre-preg weight 10 days after delivering it was def. water retention and not "real" weight gain.

I have also been shocked at how much I've already gained-- over 20 lbs at 23 weeks!
But, nobody else seems concerned about this. They said that growth spurts do happen.

I'd be more concerned at being behind schedule than gaining fast. Especially since you are carrying two! I'm sure your docs will keep an eye out for anything suspicious. What my midwives said is that they really go by the measurement of your uterus, not so much the number on the scale. :)

I have gained way more then I thought I would as well.  35 lbs to date and I am barely into 3rd trimester when most of it should take place.  My Dr. told me every women is different, and if your tiny (I am tall, but very small boned and thin) that it's good to gain more.  I agree with perty, discuss it with your Dr., but I am betting that is just fine for you, especially with twins.  Good luck!!

i dont know about weight gain with twins but sometimes a hefty weight gain in just days can also be an indication of something you want to discuss with your dr.  now if its because  of the extra pie and the late night sneaky turkey sandwiches then you know its not a big deal haha.  however i dont know if its possible to eat enough to gain like that?

9lbs in a week is something i would call your dr about, better safe than sorry!
