Trisomy 18 ultrascreen

So, I am so so happy to be surprisingly pregnant. The only thing is....I got a call on Friday that my 12 week ultrascreen came back "positive" for Trisomy 18. The doctor then explained I have a 1 in 73 chance of this condition affecting our baby. Ugh......I am really really upset. I'm 40 and this was a miracle pregnancy....feeling lik this is my last chance. Anyone else have a screening like this?? How did it turn out????
Thanks!

I agree it's not ideal, but if you picture 73 babies in your mind, it means one of them might be affected while the other 72 are not. It's still only a 1.37% chance.

That's sad news and very difficult for you and your partner. 1:73 is high but just take each day as it comes and read up on trisomy 18. Don't see this as your last chance if things don't work out well. You're 40 and while risks are higher, a healthy baby is definitely possible. I'm 40 and 18 weeks after a few miscarriages. My sister in law is 45 and 25 weeks with all going well.

Sorry to hear that. My doctor said there is still a chance that the baby may be alright even if the test was positive.  Mine came back normal but my husband and I had agreed that if there was something wrong we would do the amniocentesis. With that one you should know exactly what is wrong. Good luck
