WORRIED ABOUT HCG LEVEL

I am new to this website but hope that I can find a little piece of mind until I see my OB this Friday.  I saw my OB for my first prenatal care last Tuesday (02/26/08).  He did bloodwork for my HCG and also an U/S.  We heard the heartbeat and I was about 5 weeks and 6 days; I saw him again last Friday (02/29/08) and he did another u/s and heard the heartbeat (121 bmp); my Dr did not say anything about my bloodwork; today, he called me at work and asked if I could stop by the office for another HCG bloodwork b/c my bloodwork fromlast Friday did not double.  The nurse told me that the level did go up a bit but did not double.  She said tha my Dr. just wanted to make sure that it went up again.  I did some research today and read that sometimes the levels do not double and it still is a normal pregnancy.  Should I be very, very worried?

I was told that once the hearbeat was visible, they didn't worry about levels anymore.  My dr. also said that after 10,000, it stops doubling.
Hope this helps.

My levels did not double either when I was in the very beginning of my pregnancy.  I got pregnant through Frozen embryo transfer and initially had two implant but one miscarried at 5-6 wks.  after six weeks we heard the heart beat and my doctor did not do any more HCG tests as they said the levels would only cause me to worry.  At one point my level only went up by 100 in 48 hours.  I spent five days freaking out.  If you have already heard a heart beat and have not experienced any bleeding I would remain completely positive that this is a good pregnancy.  I am now 23 weeks and counting.  I have a level II ultrasound on friday.

Thankn you guys for your comments.  I heard from my ob this morning. He called and told me that my hcg from yesterday went up only a little (5300 to 5847) and my progesterone is at 10.1.  He started me on oral progesterone today and I will have an u/s tommorrow morning. He did state that he is not sure if this pregnancy is going to go forward but he is hopeful that the progesterone medication will help.  I read another forum on oral progesterone for pregnancy and alot of women having miscarriage threats on this progesterone are celebrating their babies life now.  I hope to hear that heartbeat tommorrow.  Thank you all for replying.

At this point the u/s is more realiable cause you can see the progress of the baby. You can have a low hcg and normal pregnancy and you can have normal hcg range and the pregnancy is not viable. Don't stress much for the level and wait your next u/s Good luck

me dr told me it needs to go up atleast 60% in 48 hours but once they see the heart beat u/s is much better for tracking pg progress than hcg.

best of luck to you
