The three basic ways to calculate trimesters  
There are basically three ways of dividing up a pregnancy into the three trimesters; they are by:
Development,   Gestation,   Conception. They give different dates for when the second trimester begins and for when the third trimester begins. Your health care provider might prefer to use the Development method, while another Midwife or Doctor may use the Gestation method.
I am sure they do that just to confuse pregnant women.  
by Development:
This uses actual developmental stages to divide up a pregnancy. From LMP to 12 weeks the embryo develops all the major organs and becomes a fetus. From 12 weeks to 27 weeks the fetus continues developing and reaches viability. From 27 weeks on the fetus finishes development and prepares for delivery. Here the second trimester begins at 12w 0d and the third at 27w 0d.
by Gestation:
With this method you take the 40 weeks of gestation and divide by three. Here the second trimester begins at 13w 3d and the third at 26w 6d.
by Conception:
This method is where you take the 38 weeks of post conception development, divide by three, and add two weeks. Here the second trimester begins at 14w 5d and the third at 27w 3d.

1st Month = Weeks 1,2,3,4  
2nd Month = Weeks 5,6,7,8  
3rd Month = Weeks 9,10,11,12,13

Your Second Trimester:
4th Month = Wks 14,15,16,17
5th Month = Wks 18,19,20,21
6th Month = Wks 22,23,24,25,26

Your Third Trimester:
7th Month = Wks 27,28,29,30
8th Month = Wks 31,32,33,34,35
9th Month = Wks 36,37,38,39,40
Week 1 till end of week 13 Begin week 14 till end week 26 Begin week 27 till Birth

i find it confusing how there are 2 different ways of determining which trimester you are in and at that with gestation dates, everyone ovulates at different times so it is never really gonna be exact. its nice to think 2nd trimester starts at 12 weeks, makes you feel hopeful that its progressing and feels like its going quicker at the beginning

Makes sense to me...too bad the ultrasounds are always wrong and the blasted doctors tend to go by them.
With my last three babies I've had, the ultrasounds tell the doctors that I'm always weeks or more behind my actual conception date. (never had one with my first)
My last 3 babes were very small, and with my second one the ultrasound said that I was only about 5-6 weeks...the DOCTOR'S pregnancy test, along with the hpt said I was at least 11-12 weeks. (Did hpt day of missed period and doctor's test 2 days later.)
The blasted doctor decided to go with the ultrasound's "suggestion"...at first...until I was in (the u/s's) 6th month...then they realized he was just small. This was when they found out that he was small because he only had one functioning kidney, and that he was indeed a boy.
This means that according to that blasted machine I wasn't even pregnant when I took the tests. According to "it" I got pregnant more than a month after the tests said I was pregnant.
Can't wait to see what the stupid machine says this time. lol
And why is this site saying I'm only 4 weeks 3 days? When I did the test and calculations on Saturday morning, it said I was 4 weeks 2 days. So shouldn't I be 4 weeks and 4 days?
Maybe it's a time zone thing?
