Worried, initial not doubling HCG & no hearbeat at 6w1d

Hi -
I'm 36 years old and 6.5 weeks pregnant for the second time - my first pregnancy ended in a miscarrage last August at 6 weeks.

I had at transvaginal u/s on Monday, at exactly 6 weeks and the doctor could not see a heartbeat.  I have to go back in 10 days.  Obviously I've very concerned.  Additionally, I don't have ANY pregnancy symptoms...no bigger/sore breasts, no nausea, no abnormal fatigue...nothing.

I have had some off and on mild cramping, but not accompanied by any spotting or bleeding.

Another bit of background; i got pregnant via IUI, so my dates are accurate.  Also, my first HCG level was 372 at 4w, 48 hrs later it was only 409 (not good).  72 hours later i went in for an u/s to rule out ectopic, which they did and my levels had risen to 1380 and my progesteron was "great" (not sure what the number was).

I also was diagnosed with severe endometriosis and was treated successfully via laproscopy on April 29th.

What are the chances this will turn out good and I'll see a heartbeat at my next ultrasound at 7w3days?

I'm happy that you were able to see a strong heartbeat.  I bet everything will be okay.  Babies tend to grow at their own pace with each one different; it's not an exact science no matter how hard the dr's try to make it into one.  I'm sure there's alot of others on here with the size measuring a little behind that turned out fine.  Sending good wishes your way and extra SSBD!

Hi -
Well, i had my ultrasound today and i was beyond worried.  Yesterday I had a sever bout of nasuea.  At first I was thrilled to be experiencing a "symptom", but then became worried because it just didn't seem right.  I was sick for about 5 hours - i threw up 8 times.  Then, all of a sudden the nasuea went away and i felt fine.  Then, i started bleeding.  I had quite a bit of blood last night, red - but no cramping.  No bleeding overnight, then this morning some very dark brown blood and a couple clots, but still no cramping.

I wasn't expecting good news, but the doctor did SEE and HEAR a heartbeat - they turned up the volume so we could hear it too...it sounded really strong!  it was 132 bpm!

But, we're not out of the woods yet, he said the fetus was measuing about 4 days too small and that he's only giving it a 50/50 chance.  I thought that once a heartbeat was detected the chance of miscarrage dropped to 5%?

Anyway, more waiting.  I have to go back in 2 weeks to see if the growth catches up and I'm praying for no more bleeding.

Just trying to stay positive.   Thanks everybody!

Hi there,,, your experience sounds just like mine.  I had mild cramping and spotting so i went in for a U/S at 6wk1d.  The RE couldnt see a hb at that time.  He told me it was just too small and that i would need to go back in 10 days.  So, 10 days later i went back and there was a beautiful little heartbeat.  Interestingly, even though the US took place at 7wk4d past IUI, the fetus measured 7wk2d.  I guess the sperm and the egg didnt meet immediately, so it was younger than they thought.

Your numbers arent "textbook", but they are rising.  I would say -  try to think positive, miracles happen every day!  Why shouldnt you get one too?

I didnt get a heart beat until over 7 weeks maybe even more. The doctor was ready to give me a DNC but we waited for my doctor the next week and guess what we got a heart beat. Just try to keep relaxed. I will be praying for you...

They didn't find a HB on my youngest daughter until I was 8 1/2 weeks pregnant! I have three children ages 19 yrs, 17 yrs, 3 years, and two on the way. She came out fine even though she was small. They think that may be why they couldn't find it until then. She took her time getting there! But, she is healthy, smart, and a joy to be around! So, don't think something is wrong that early. He/She is probably taking his/her own time!

First I want to say how sorry I am about what your going through. I am m/cing right now actually. Well my baby has passed so hopefully the bleeding will stop soon.

So I am going to be honest with you. It is hard to tell how this will turn out because anything can happen. I know other women who didn't hear a heatbeat around 6 weeks and it took another week or two to get it on screen. So it is possible that a heart beat will show. Your numbers going from 372 to only 409 is not good. However a woman's number don't always double every 48 hrs exactly, sometimes it can take 36 hrs depending. But if your levels are 1380 right now then you are actually reading EXCELLENT NUMBERS. They are totally normal and on the high side I believe. Cramping also can happen to and it can be normal.

So from what I can gather this really is up in the air and could go either way. Because there is two sides really to everything that is happening. Good and bad. I wish you all the best of luck, but don't give up hope because it isn't over yet!

I'm here if you need to talk!

Six weeks is still very early! With both my boys I did not see an HB until the end of the 6th wk! Everyday makes a huge difference! I did not have symptoms until I was about 8wks, then I felt like a walking zombie!

It is good that your hcg is increasing! Hopefully your next U/S will be great!

Good luck!
