breast feeding question

I will be a ftm and on countdown to baby arrival as i have already gone over my due date. I am aiming to bf but hubby keeps saying we need to buy some bottles and formula just in case I cant bf when we come out of hospital. Do u think we should get bottles and formula just in case? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Most women can breast feed. If you can't when you get out of hospital the shops will be open and your hubby can go get what you need.
My advice would be to not buy any bottles or formula and save the money/hassle as then your into sterilising, boiling water etc and chances are you're going to be able to  BF just fine.  The protection for baby is great too and will keep them safe until they can get their immunisations.
My friend's advice to me-(she has had 4 babies and is still feeding her 2yo and 4m baby currently). Get a good midwife or lactation consultant to help, as it is painful at first especially if the latch is not quite right.  Don't expect it to feel wonderfully comfortable or natural for the first couple of weeks but enjoy it if it does! After you get used to it it is "easy".
If your hubby wants to share in feeding, then wait until a bit older then maybe you could express and give baby some via that?
There will probably be some very pro-BF feedback coming your way from this forum but if it doesn't work out don't feel like a failure or any less of a mother.
Good luck!

Is that you Bob just gave you the best advice. I wouldn't buy anything for now. Work with a lactation consultant, they'll help you tons! The biggest advice I could give is to not give up. There are tons of tools out there to help you both be successful!

Thank u both for your really helpful advice. I did think the same about the shops being open 24hrs should we need to buy bottles and formula if things dont go well.  Will tell hubby to leave it for now, I think he was just thinking of me trying to take the pressure off. I just cant wait for little one to arrive now.

Great advice ladies. I'm here with my babies in nicu and fighting with the pump to get even a couple of drops to give them. Its hard but i cant wait until my milk comes and i'm able to fully feed both of them. I cant believe someone posted on another question that her doc told her unless you eat super healthy it is hard to compete with the good formulas now a days...what???? Craziness...

We are made to breastfeed. No reason you shouldn't be able to especially if you have a good support system. Also make sure to get in touch with your local LA Leche League and lactation consultant.  There's a good forum called ************ that you can check in with as well. Most every single breastfeeding issue has a remedy if you have a good support system. And TRUST your body and baby! Don't worry about scheduling and all of that mess. Breastfed babies need to nurse through growth spurts in order to make sure your supply is sufficient--it's a supply demand thing. No baby wise stuff...just listen to your baby and relax and enjoy.
