Zolaft or Prozac while TTC and Pregnant

Hi there, I went to my OB yesterday and since my miscarriage I have been suffering with anxiety and panics.  I have not been able to get pregnant since my miscarriage (we have been TTC since February).  The Dr. feels my strees/anxiety is a factor.  They recommend me going on either Zolaft, Prozac or Paxil.  I have heard of some issues with Paxil which they say now studies have shown its okay but I would not want to take the chance since there were issues before...however i wanted to see if anybody has been on any of these drug treatments while TTC and pregnant and have a healthy baby.  I would appreciate any feedback.  Thank you.

Hello!

Actually, I've heard GREAT things about Lexapro in regards to anxiety and panic.  My mother is like you, and very sensitive to everything under the sun, including Tylenol. She tried Lexapro and it made her so ill she couldn't get out of bed or even lift her head. I thought that was really wierd! Everyone else who has used it that I know says it is fabulous.  I'm not sure it's safe for pregnancy though... they might not know enough about it.  I do plan to look into that one if my anxiety gets bad again after the baby is born.

Hello!

I probably shouldn't say this since I work for a pharma company that *cough* is involed in the creation of some of these drugs, but frankly, I would stay away from Paxil.  I also suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and panic, and I did try Paxil initially to help with the symptoms.  It actually made them much worse and had a lot of very unpleasant side effects.  Paxil has been linked to some pretty scary things as well, and though some take it and it works great, I think it's too unpredictable, especially when pregnant.

What helped me was Remeron. Actually, it was a lifesaver, but there is nothing known about its safety while pregnant.  I heard Prozac might be good for anxiety but I have no idea.  My doc recommended it because I also was having some anxiety problems at the beginning of my pregnancy and I didn't want to take it.  She prescribed Wellbutrin, which certainly is safe during pregnancy, but I also didn't take that because it's HORRIBLE if you have anxiety.  I finally gave up and muscled through it, and found that the anxiety/panic was more hormone related.  Once I got to about 12 or 13 weeks, it got much better on its own.

I hope that helps!

Thanks ladies unfortunately Prozac will not be effetctive for me as I don't suffer from depression but currently suffering from anxiety, panic and OCD. I would like to be sure that the 20mg of Paxil will not harm my baby should I become pregnant while taking it.  Any insight on the Paxil drug.  I appreciate your feedback ladies and I have heard Prozac is pretty safe unforatenly won't help me.  Thanks

I have been on Prozac for about 15 years and never went off of it.  My doctor assured me that it is safe during pregnancy.  I'm 19 weeks pregnant and baby is looking healthy so far.  But always check with your doctor.

I had been on Prozac for 2 years before I got pregnant. I quit taking it the day I found out I was pregnant ( I was about 2 weeks along with my 1st missed period) My son is 25 1/2 weeks pregnant right now, 42 years old and they say my son is perfect.

Good Luck and always follow your doctor's advice regarding medication

Hi,
I am on Prozac since two miscarriages over the last year.  They really help and they do not interfere with the conception or development of the baby.
I have top NYC RE and Obgyn to back this up.
Anxiety can be a big obstacle in getting and staying pregnant.

I was told prozac because it has been studied for many more years than paxil or zolaft. I'm so sorry about your loss.

If I were you, I would consult your pharmacist if you're unsure.  My dh's one & he's excellent for providing info about drugs for pregnant or ttc women.  He's reluctant to give advice over the web but that's what he suggested when I asked him about your ?.  He does think that your dr wouldn't have prescribed it to you if it weren't safe.  Good luck!
