I am 36 at 28 weeks and did the MaterniT21 and received a bill asking for us to pay 2700.00.....:0...because it is such a new test out there , not a lot of insurance companies are willing to pay it. The good part is that even though they send you this huge bill, all you have to do is call them and talk to the them. As long as it was recommended by your doc/midwife, you only pay the deductible which they guarantee is no more than 200.
I'm 34, but will be 35 when the baby is born. If they don't cover it, I'll probably just pay out of pocket if it's only a few hundred dollars.
Thank you all for your help! I will be talking more in depth with my doctor at my appointment in 2 weeks.
I had the blood test done at twelve weeks. All chromosomes are normal and we are having a baby girl, we are 15 weeks now. This test has the least risk for you and the baby.
My insurance covers it because I'm over 35. My midwife said at 35 the insurance automatically covers it because you are considered high risk because of advanced maternal age. I'm waiting to get my results. I am supposed to hear by the 14th and I'm a nervous wreck.
I will be 36 when my baby is born I'm 12 weeks now. I had what they call here the harmony test down. .. it tells the gender of the baby and any birth defects. ... good luck
Your insurance will cover it if you're high risk. If not its like a few hundred $. The only test that's 100% is the amnio. I have done both. The risk of miscarriage is there but low. The amnio is pretty uncomfortable but a must if you want to be 100% sure.
Did your insurance pay for the materniT21? My husband said we'd pay out of pocket for it, but I'm sure it's very expensive. If it wasn't, I'd think they'd do it to most moms no matter of age.
I had the maternaT done and it checks for trisomy11, trisomy13 and downs syndrome. It will also tell you the sex. The screening is almost 100% accurate and it's recommended for women over 35. I tested positive for the most severe of the three, trisomy 13, about a year ago and had to have D&E at 19 weeks. I'm pregnant again and terrified. I'm scheduled for my first doctors appt at 8 weeks but they don't recommend the rest prior to 10 for more accuracy do I might have to wait. Even though the condition is "very rare" it doesn't make you worry less.
They told me the same thing, but i said no... when you go to see the specialist they will give you other options. I say don't. Btw im 37. And i was also told its done more women 40 and over.....
I wouldn't do the amnio, but the materniT21 I've got scheduled for the end of the month. Just hope my insurance pays for it. I have a call in to the insurance company, and they're checking on it.
There is a newer test where they just take blood from you and can determine the sex with nearly 100% accuracy. It also tests for a bunch of other chromosomal abnormalities with baby. It is called materniT21. If you Google it, you can find a lot of info.
