I'm glad your back. Its so hard after a loss..I hope you are feeling stronger and have found some peace. XOXO
thanks A... Its good to see your posts once again, I kinda went of the rails there awhile after I lost my baby last year.
Early ultrasound is typically considered to be very accurate, and usually Dr.'s will use that over LMP. This is for the reasons Christine mentioned, along with the fact that many women can be off on their dates. After first trimester, using ultrasound for dating purposes is far less accurate.
Hi christine :) I am pleased to meet you :) I have four other kids 21, 20, 18 and 10, things sure have changed since I have had my first baby, as you are most probably aware. Now a days you have early detection HPT and so forth, back then I didn't know I was preg until i was at least 2 months! Anyways its been 10 years since my last baby, however I did fall pregnant Sept last year, I had a miscarriage (I had an IUD taken out and wasn't expected to fall preg the same month I had it out). I hope we can stay in touch. We have alot in common :) take care.
By scan do you mean ultrasound?
It has been 19 years since my last pregnancy and this current one is only 6 weeks so I am not up to date on new things :)
I know with ultrasound, they use the baby's size to estimate gestational age...but the accuracy depends on when the measurements are done...and the experience and precision of the technician.
Using the first day of your LMP is accurate if you have a standard 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 14 of that cycle :) Otherwise, it can be a bit off...
With my daughter (who will be 21 in July), they used my lmp even though I kept telling them I had VERY irregular periods and sometimes skipped as many as 6 months...so they were expecting her in June :/ In May they sent me for an ultrasound because she was very small for what they thought her gestational age to be and used that information to adjust my due date to July 7.
I kept telling them by MY calculations she was due July 9th...she was born July 13 and they determined that she was overdue by 4 days....
Hi! I'm not sure if this is universal, but my doc always goes by LMP unless the ultrasound shows a difference of a week or more.
