help...low HCG

Hi.I posted this on another forum and recieved no response. I am 40. This is our third pregnancy in one year. Our first two ended in miscarriage..,Our Blessed angles returned to Him at 8.5 weeks and around 5weeks. My LPM was Dec 13 2007. We found out we were pregnant Jan 11 with an HCG level of 19. On Jan 15 it was 73 on Jan 17 it was 112 and today Jan 22 it is 383. My progesterone was at 20 both first days and did not come back yet for today. I am on 300mg of natural progresterone. My doctor didn't even call my pregnancy viable today, I had to correct her taht the numbers were increasing but she said she would like them higher...okay so woudl i but they are increasing! Today I was a bit crampy, low dull period like cramps...I am going to put my feet up..no spotting.. I should be excited right. I have read lots of pregancies have low numbers and end up healthy. Help? My doctor has not scheduled anoter HCG until a week from now saying one evrey other day was unnecessary. Is that a good or bad sign? Anyone else have extremely low numbers and go on with happy, healthy babies...? thanks for any support.

I too had low levels.  I ended up having a mc but was told that as long as the numbers are rising within the 50% range then there's still hope.  I have had 2 mc's in a row but am hopeful to try again.  The ultrasound is really the best measure.  They should be able to see a heartbeat when your level reaches a certain #.

Best of luck to you.  I hope everything works out well.  But if it doesn't, don't give up hope.  sometimes it just takes a few tries.  I also believe that God has a plan....even if it isn't always the same as our plan.

Oh, I just saw your post that you were having an ultrasound today.  So I guess they are already checking to be sure it's not ectopic.  Hope you got a good result!

I posted yesterday, but thought of something to add.  Increasing but very low hcg levels can also be the sign of an ectopic pregnancy, which is a pregnancy that grows in your fallopian tube.  At about 6 weeks, my hcg was about 1400, which my RE said was too low to be a viable pregnancy, but he called me in for an immediate ultrasound to see if there was evidence that the pregnancy was in the uterus.  There was a gestational sac in my uterus, but that was all.  (At that point, this was considered good news, as it meant it wasn't an ectopic pregnancy.)  He said I would miscarry within two weeks, which is what happened.  If your next hcg test shows a rise but still low numbers, you should ask your doctor for an ultrasound to rule out an ectopic pregnancy.  In the meantime, if you have any severe or prolonged pain on one side, you should get immediate medical attention, as it is very dangerous if the pregnancy is ectopic and your fallopian tube bursts.  Let us know what happens with you.  I wish you the best!

I have had two miscarriages in the last 9 months (and have really low odds of conceiving again), so I can understand your pain over the miscarriages and your hopes for this pregnancy.  But really, these numbers are very, very low for 5 and 1/2 weeks--too low to be viable, according to all of the charts I've seen that are posted online.  It's true that your numbers are going up, but hcg numbers can go up even if a pregnancy isn't viable.  In fact, during my last miscarriage in October, my hcg continued to go up (another 1000 points) for two weeks after the miscarriage.  So in all honesty, I would prepare yourself for another miscarriage, and pray for a miracle.  Again, I'm so sorry for your losses.

My RE said the lowest hcg increase recorded for a viable pg was 58% increase every 48hours.

I'm not trying to be negative, just trying to be truthful about what I was told. I really do hope this works out for you. I know all those dissappointments have got to be tremendously difficult for you.

Best of luck to you and your family.

I would not worry yet. When I was pregnant with my son, my HCG levels did not automatically double as "normal" and they told me I would miscarry and I went back to the dr a few days later and all of a sudden everything changed and he is now 4 years old, so don't be too sad
