Hi,
There is a lot of info on the web if you google fsh and "dizygotic twins". I am a fraternal twin, my father had fraternal twin siblings and my cousin has fraternal twins..so, yes, they run in my family as well:)
Here is one older study:

Good luck!
Hi Miranda9 - I was just wondering about your comment on having an elevated FSH with fraternal twins in the family.
I have fraternal twins, (boys, almost 5 years old now) conceived naturally after almost a year of trying. My maternal grandmother was a fraternal twin herself. I have an elevated FSH ranging from 11.6-13.1. We have been ttc for 2 years now....clomid.....femara....4 iui's. This past month we have decided to stop trying and let God take charge of our situation. I have never heard of FSH levels being elevated due to twins running in the family..........I'd love to hear if you have any more information on that subject??
Thanks.
Yes, having one ovary does affect FSH level, it elevates the level! FSH is also elevated if you have fraternal twins in your family or if you are the mother of fraternal twins naturally conceived.
Now, I wonder if FSH gets elevated because of a functional cyst?
hmm, my RE doesn't do the FSH b/w. I asked him about it @ my first visit & he told me that US is more reliable to see ovarian reserve.
I've always been curious about that. I wonder if having only one ovary would make a difference w/that number???
Hi there, I conceived my baby girl who is now 6 months old after FSH readings of 11.7 and 15 (and dismal predictions/statistics relayed to me by doctors). Don't let the #s get you down. Best of luck to you! PS I'm also 40 years old and just got another BFP on first time trying (too early to get too excited but still..it's a BFP)...
You definitely should be hopeful!! IT will help!
oh adgal u give me such hope.. i have it it checked every other month and its been between 10.4 and 13.9.. thankyou again
I am not sure what mine was recently (the number can change month to month), however I believe my last test was around 12, and I just conceived naturally this cycle. Have your Dr. repeat the FSH next cycle, they can and do change. I don't think 13.9 is really all that high, so I bet you can still conceive. Good luck to you!!!
