how do you know if you have group strep b?

Im 35 weeks and have done some reading online, and as a ftm, I would like to be tested to see if I have this, as I have scared myself by reading about it online, and i would like to have some reassurance instead of giving birth and having it pass to my newborn son and having to deal with it then. If you havent had before confirmed streb b, can just ask your Dr to do a swab to have it checked for? As my midwife said that they don't routinely check for it, unless you have had it before? Thanks x

I'm from Australia. We get routinely checked at 36 weeks and its a swab. Like the other thread said, if you do have it then you'll need to get to the hospital early during labour. That way they'll administer stuff like antibiotics to ensure it doesn't pass to the bub.

Definitely ask for the swab to be done asap.

I had it done via urine sample at my first prenatal appt as well. No need for a swab. Standard test in California.

Are u in the US? Because it is routine to check everyone with every pregnancy at 37ish weeks. They don't like risking the baby. I would demand it if I were you.

They should do it sometime around 37 or 38 weeks. You can ask your midwife. If you do have it then you will need to get to the hospital as soon as labor begins and tell them that you tested positive. They will give you penicillin through your iv which will protect your baby during birth.

My midwife did the swab at 38 weeks but you can ask to get it done before.
