I took flagyl at about 12 weeks pregnant. They consider that it can be used by 2nd trimester if benefit outweighs the risk, which it did in my case as I had a severe case of amoebiasis for which I was hospitalised.
I also took flagyl in the first trimester before I knew I was pregnant - I took the vaginal cream. I am now 31 weeks and things are fine. My understanding is that the vaginal cream is okay but that the oral meds have been associated with potential birth defects (not sure about miscarriage) - but even with these risks - it can be just as bad for the fetus to let an infection go untreated - so there is really no other choice. My ob was not worried about me taking the flagyl. I am so, so sorry about your loss. I know how devastating it is, but try not to beat yourself up as well - I think it is unlikely that the flagyl caused it and you had no choice but to take it anyway even if you knew you were pregnant. I am wishing you peace and recovery and plenty of future luck conceiving..
Hi there. I don't know anything about flagyl, although I do about miscarriage and I am so very sorry for your loss. I wanted to recommend that you also post this on the miscarriage forum. You may find you get as many, if not more responses and opinions. Again, I am sorry for your loss, and I wish you well.
