Dr. caused miscarriage

I have a question that is really bugging me to be answered.. My friend after 8 YEARS of trying for a baby found out she was pregnant. At 7 weeks she developed a minor bladder infection and was put on antibiotics. A few days later she was in severe pain and was extremely dizzy, she ended up falling outside unable to control the dizziness. After a few hours the pain became so intense she wanted to go to the hospital and had to call an ambulance. The paramedics and the Emergency room doctor were horrified to find out she was put on these antibiotics while pregnant. After some tests she was told she was losing the baby and it was the antibiotics that had caused the miscarriage and her severe dizziness.. :'(  She is DEVASTATED and heartbroken. She can not keep anything down and was put on morphine for the pain she is still having.. Does she have a case to sue this doctor for putting her on these pills and causing her loss even though the doctor should have known it would kill the baby?

Unfortunately they don't consider a fetus a person that early in pregnancy. So since it is not considered a person it does not have the same rights. I would speak to a lawyer about it because Idk anything much really.

I also had an infection and my Doc gave me antibiotics (amoxiline) but I did not have any problm with them.the infection it self at times cause problms even of miscarriage especially if it spread and infect the kidneys.so I believe maybe the Doc was right but its unfortunate that  maybe health wise she just fail to cope up with the drug and the pregnants and the unfortunate happened.Or we can also blame the Doc if he had gave her the antibiotics whilst he knew that the lady was having a terrible healthy problm due to the pregnant .some people will safe alost  during their first trimester so powerfull drugs might worsen the situation.just be strong for her dear.God will bless her again

ch_anny,  I'm sorry for your friend's loss.

I can't find any antibiotics that cause miscarriage - although there are a couple common ones that are used for bladder infections that are known to cause birth defects.

Was she on a sulfa drug, do you know?

It sounds like she had a severe unexpected allergic reaction to whatever drug she was on.

If the doctor did know she was pregnant and prescribed a drug that is known to cause difficulty in pregnancies it sounds like she has a case to sue.  But it sounds to me like she didn't have a normal reaction to this drug and shouldn't be taking it whether she's pregnant or not in the future.

It's going to be hard to prove the Dr. knowingly gave her a med. To make her lose her baby. Unfortunately I lost my first after taking meds for UTI as well, most horrible experience of my life so far.

If she is sure the doctor knew it wud kill the baby she definitely has a strong case. I just don't think he killed the baby on purpose. I don't know. Am so sorry though.
