I had shingles when pregnant and miscarried. Whether they were related, who knows,  but the doctor seemed to think they were. So my advice is to wait until she is recovered. Also, I felt dreadful with shingles, fever, nausea, extremely painful and having s...x was the last thing on my mind. Tell her to take care of herself and I hope she feels 100% better again really soon.

For the children, we call it chicken pox while for the adults it is called shingles. Yes, mlb is correct it will cause malformations to the unborn. It is consider dangerous during pregnancy.

The herpes virus which causes both chicken pox and shingles is not normally harmful to healthy adults and children but can be very bad for an unborn fetus and pregnant woman whose immune system is already lowered due to the pregnancy. It can cause intrauterine death, malformations and be transmitted to the unborn child so it would be best to wait until your wife is better.

Shingles are fairly common and not really that big a deal as far as I know.  I doubt it would impact fertility, however I think that talking to your Dr. is the best bet.  He or she may feel it best to have them gone prior to.  My understanding is that shingles are a similar virus to chicken pox, and chicken pox are not a good thing to have while pregnant.  Be safe, see a Dr.  Good luck.

I would definitely wait until she is better.  Lots of risks to the baby.
