Tens machine, for pain relief during childbirth.

Has anyone used a tens machine and how effective are they?

I hired a tens machine for both my labours and found them helpful for early labour when I was getting irregular mild- mod contractions for a day or so before stronger contractions, as soon as I got to hospital I started the gas and air and wanted the tens machine off so hub could start massaging my back when I was having a contraction.  I'll definitely hire one again this time.
Best wishes

Thanks for your response, that's what I wanted to know.  Looking for alternative pain relief for end stages of labor, instead of pethidine.

I used it with my first. It was good at the early stages. I don't think it actually help with the pain, but it takes your mind of it and gives you something to do.  But later on I had it on full power and just couldn't feel it at all. So moved on to other forms of pain relief.
