induce but wanting naturally?

So first time mom. & I'm 40+5 weeks and there's no sign of my son coming any time soon it seems like... my doctor told me Thurs that I was dilated 1/2 cm and that my cervix/plug was hard still...I have to go back Monday to see if there's any change, and to talk about options...I don't want/not planning on the epidural, but I think being induced is the only way he's coming out...does it hurt to be induced without getting the epidural? My Dr also said that I may need a csection...my original due date was the 13th but they changed it to the 3rd. Could they just be wrong about the 2nd due date? I know a due date is just an educated guess though so I don't know what to think here.

My due date was changed with my first also, from March 8th to the 3rd and my son wasn't born till the 18th.  The first ultrasound is a lot more accurate than the 2nd.  Plus I knew my LMP date for sure.  They can do non stress tests and ultrasound to check your fluid index and if those are reassuring than you can refuse induction.   Also if your cervix isn't ripe than the risk of the induction not working and needing a section is greater.

My mom carried me for 10 and a half months before they finally induced her. C sections can cause so many problems later on, I'd just wait it out as long as you can unless it's absolutely essential. Doctors can be so impatient nowadays and throw the option of c section out there just to get it over with. A lot of women say that getting induced hurts a lot more than just letting it happen naturally but others say no. It all depends on your pain tolerance really.
