Confused on How far I am

OK I went to the Doctor today and had an U/S they said the ultrasound show no heartbeat and asked if I got my dates wrong.  I know I conceived the weekend of Feb. 28, because my husband is a truck driver and he was in town that weekend.  That date would put me at 5 1/2 weeks preg.  but they are using the date of my last period which is 2/14/11, which puts me at 71/2 preg.  I am so confused.  Instead of the nurse pract. coming in and saying we have the dates wrong she comes in and says i have bad news, there is no heartbeat, my heart dropped.  At 5 1/2 weeks preg. you cannot hear a heart beat, I am not bleeding nor am I cramping.  I feel very pregnant with tender breast, in the bathroom every min.  and always hungry.  Can someone tell me how far I am if I know I conceived on Feb. 28th.  thank you so much.  I had two previous M/C and I am so nervous now.  They took my HCG level I will get it tomorrow.  thanks again in advance.

Thank you so much.  It was awful, and I still feel broken since I haven't been able to conceive since - but it did make it easier that at 8 weeks there was still nothing visible in the gestational sac, not even a yolk sac - and it was up by my ovary.

If the 5 weeks that was measured matches the 5 weeks that you know to be true, then I wouldn't worry too much yet.  It sounds like your dr is trying to force the LMP theory on you without actually listening to what you have to say.  Don't really just on hormone levels either - I would wait 2 weeks and have another U/S.  They can't force you to have a D&C or anything, and if it's not implanted in the wrong place, then let it be.  Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.  If in 2 weeks, the sac has grown and there's nothing there - then you will have more information.  If they saw both sacs and no fetal pole then it really honestly sounds like they were just too early.  Best of luck and SSBD!!

oh you are so welcome!!  I know how hard this is and the emotional roller-coaster that it provides.  We had a hb at 5.5 weeks (guestimated) and then nothing two weeks later at the follow-up.  I am sending you positive thoughts that this is just a matter of dates being off.  Or like Sheaby said and it's just not big enough yet.

Thinking of you!!!

First, thanks for all the hugs.  You are right about conception taking place days after intercourse, that would make me less preg., then I think.  That would put me at more like five weeks.  I will see tomorrow with the HCG levels I will let you all know.  Thanks again.  Have a Great Day.

They did see a gestasional sac and a yolk that measured at 5 weeks.  That is why I was wondering why she came in and said bad news.  Why not say wrong dates.  I guess I will wait for my levels tomorrow before I drive myself crazy.  Also, I am sorry for you , for what  happen last year, that must of been horrible, I know it is hard to except, as I am having the same problem accepting now I want more proof.

Going by your LMP generally works if you have regular 28 day cycles and ovulate on day 14.  I would definitely get a second opinion or wait until you have another ultrasound.  You know when you had sex, and you know when you conceived.  If it's not possible to be as far along as your dr claims, I would wait.  Do NOT go against your gut.  What did they see?  Did they see a gestastional sac, yolk sac, and/or fetal pole?  Dr's have very often been wrong, and only you truly know your body.  Good news -- it could be too early and your bean just isn't big enough yet.  Bad news - it could be an impending miscarriage that hasn't started or a blighted ovum.  Last year, my betas were doubling fairly normal, but they couldn't find anything until around 8 weeks and it was a sac in the wrong place and nothing inside.  Because of the location, we knew it would never be viable.  It still took me a week to accept it and only after another U/S did I finally accept the mtx shot.  If you feel in your heart that you are pregnant - WAIT.  Do not let a dr tell you otherwise until you are absolutely sure and can see it for yourself.

OMG...so sorry you are going through this.  Don't lose hope!  if they did an U/S vaginally, then they would be able to see a hb at 5.5 weeks.  That's exactly when I first saw mine.  For the dates, they typically do go by the first day of your last period because there is no way to pin-point when conception actually took place.  Even though you know when you had intercourse, conception could have taken place a few or a handful of days later.

Maybe the HCG test will show a good number and you can go back for a follow-up U/S?  I know how hard the waiting is - it's the worst!  Sending you lots of hugs!
