Amnio??

I'm supposed to be going for an amnio on April 7th, which I'll be 37 weeks pregnant and was wondering if anyone has done this?  They are checking to see if her lungs are ready and if they are, they will deliver her on the 8th.  Does this hurt?  What can I expect?  Any help would be great!

Thanks everyone.  Just nervous.  I'm hoping her lungs will be ready for delivery because if not, they will repeat the amnio on the 14th and deliver on the 15th.  Don't want to go thru it twice!

I have never had one, but my sister in law did and said it was sort of like a bee sting.  Not too bad at all.  I wish you luck!!!!

it dosn't hurt that bad. just like drawing blood,  then a cramp, the cramp fades, and about 15 sec later the dr says ok you're done!

I had one last year when I was 18wks because we found out that our precious son Cooper had a rare heart condition. It did not really hurt that bad, just kind of felt like a small sting and that was about it. My husband freaked more then me. The needle is really long and he got one look at it and almost lost it!! He He He men are such babies!! I just kept my eyes on the ultrasound machine and it was over before I knew it.

A friend of my had hers aday before she was scheduled for a c-section because she had placenta previa. They did hers just for the same reason as you to check the lungs and all of that. Everything turned out great and she is now holding her beautiful little girl.

Try not to stress about the pain, believe me it is nothing like the labor!!!!!  Good luck and you will be holding your little one in no time!!!
