rapidly rising HCG and heavy bleeding

Hi there. I'm new to all this and having a very worrying start to my first ICSI cycle.

Had two blastocyst transfered day 6
Day 14 HCG only 17
Day 17 HCG then 52, bleeding started day 18 (light), dull pain and continued bleeding day 19
Day 20 HCG huge rise to 332, but bleeding continued and mild cramps started late evening
Today - Day 21 woke 3am with acid indigestion and mild cramps, then couple of hours latter severe cramps (had me doubled over) and bright red blood (like a heaviest part of period).
Am resting in bed today and have by next blood test on Monday day 24.

Any advice gratefully recieved, is it possible to have a prolonged and increasing bleed and a viable pregnancy or have I already miscarriage? or is it looming.

Just want to know what is going on with my body any advice good or bad really appreciated xx

Thanks kelly for your concern, as I only got my hcg results yesterday and they new i had been bleeding then, and as it is so early on  i didn't think it was worth contacting them as they cannot do an ultrasound yet and will only be relying on the HCG. With my previously low hcg they had warned me that I might start to bleed, but they where supprised that my HCG had gone up yesterday and totally unsure as to what is going on, hence why I'm back in on monday for more bloods.

I was just hoping someone else had had a shaky start and could reasure me that i,m still in with a chance,

Lottie,
The bleeding you first and still describe would not be caused by "sex, irritated cervix or the progesterone."  Light spotting would be result of those.
I agree that the first # probably should have been higher but are rising quite nice. It doesn't sound like you've contacted your dr. but I'm sure they would welcome your call with all that bleeding and the pain.  Just give them a call and let them know what's going on. They may just want to see you.

Thanks so much for all your advice, its been a horrible day spent in bed with loads more bouts of agonising cramps and some heavy bleeding and have worn a pad (napkin) for the last 3 days. Also passed a bit of tissues today which isn't a good sign. Had two embryo's transfered so a slim hope is that one has failed and is causing the cramps and bleeding - is this possible?

Haven't done anyhing that might agreviate my cervix and have not been using my progesterone vaginally.

Feeling really miserable but there is still  that small glimmer of hope... roll on Monday x

Oopps...I mean "bleeding so bad", not "bleeding so pad".

You know it's hard to say what could be going on with you.  I see three different possibilites.

Honestly your first HCG isn't that fabulous.  Your RE probably mentioned they like it to be over a hundred.  However, your second and third one are doubling....I wouldn't quite use the term rapidly rising.  I think it's normally rising.  I would define rapid as a jump from 17 to 500 in two days.   However the fact that you did a 6 day transfer VS a 5 day could be the reason why your first hcg was only 17.

You didn't mention how many embryos were transferred.  Is it possible one implanted but isn't quite going to make it?   Maybe the second one implanted and it's going to be the one that sticks, hence the doubling and the spotting.

So yes...i think it's possible that you have a viable pregnancy and that's certainly a good possibility.  Unfortunately all you can do is ride it out until you go for your ultrasound.

Did you have intercourse?  That could be causing the bleeding.....and sometimes you could just have blood in your uterus that is coming out and not related to any of this.  Or if you're using progesterone suppositories you could be irritating the cervix and causing the bleeding.  Is the bleeding so pad you have to wear a sanitary napkin round the clock?  If not than it could be a number of things.

So it's not over until it's over.   Just hang in there and wait for your ultrasound, you will know more at that point.  You probably didn't get a straight answer from your RE, so he doesn't even know what's going to happen, which means anything can happen.   I know it's so hard to wait, but time will tell, just be patient.   In the meantime prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

I agree with Kelly.I think the best option is to call your Dr and ask for a blood test and maybe an US today and not wait for Monday.
Good luck and keep us posted

I don't think the HCG is rising too rapidly. It's supposed to double every 2 days. I would contact your Dr. The heavy bleeding is not normal. At least if they can't see you they can order you a blood test so at least you don't drive yourself crazy over the weekend. Hope for the best for you!
