hcg levels

hi there

just had my hcg results back, they date me at 5 weeks 6 days and my level is hcg 9400 and prog 120. Does the hcg level seem high or normal? If I look at the guidelines it's in the normal range but I really worry about chromosome abnormalities due to my age.

FWIW, my hcg level was 83,000 at 6.5 weeks and 143,000 4 days later, and neither my GP nor midwife seemed to think there was anything to be concerned about. My midwife just said "This baby is an overachiever!" :)

I went for genetic counselling a couple of weeks later and I mentioned it to the counselor, and she didn't raise an eyebrow. She said that when they test hcg as part of the screening for Downs, they are checking for a "different protein". Not sure what that means, but she did say, "The fact that your hcg is high now doesn't necessarily mean anything."

Guess I will know more in a few weeks when I get my scans done but for now I'm just not going to worry about it. I  think your numbers are fine. :)

What happened with your hcg levels? Did everything turn out ok? I am in the same boat now, dating 5.3 wks by ultrasound yesterday and my hcg on the same day was 10,000. I don't want to bother my OB about it over the weekend, but I'm worried about it being so high. How did it turn out for you? Do you know what else can cause it to be high? I would love to hear your experience.

It's a bit on the high side, but being off by only a day or two can make a difference.  And it's not crazy high, nothing I would worry about.  I'm with Meli...maybe there is 2?
