showing 5 weeks on scan when I should be 8 weeks...is this possible

According to my lmp, I should be 8 weeks and 5 days pregnant, I had an early u/s scan today, and the sonographer said if it is a viable pregnancy then I am no further than 5 weeks. Is this possible? the 1st day of my lmp is the 24th October, I found out I was pregnant on the 17th November, and last had intercourse on the 31st October. I initially went to have an early u/s as I have been bleeding a little on a daily basis, a brown colour, my u/s showed the sac and a yolk and a tiny fetus but no heartbeat. Is it likely that I am having a miscarriage, or no longer have a viable pregnancy, I have to wait another 10 days to have another, and I am worried sick. This is my 3rd pregnancy and no problems in my previous 2.  Can this be a pending miscarriage? Please help.

Hello Adgal. Just to let you know the outcome, I lost my baby over the christmas period, and I just wanted to thank you for your kind words and thoughts, I hope you are well and wish you all the very best.

When a fetus is measuring this far behind there are basically two possibilities.  One is that your dates are way off or that sadly it is not a viable pregnancy.  At this point all you can do is wait and see which I know is the worst possible thing.  The next ultrasound should give you conclusive answers.  I have been in your shoes and I know how difficult this is.  I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and I do wish you well.
