Pregnant with 1st baby @39

Hi,

I am 10 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I'm 39. About a year and a half ago I had a miscarriage and surgery to remove 15 fibroids. I just took a MATERNIT21® PLUS test because if my age. I just took it on Monday and I am so scared. This is all I think about and also the fact that I have a new fibroid.  I am looking for support and any advice. I don't have any friends or family that have had babies at this age. I'm trying not to stress but it is so hard when the Dr says I have a higher chance to have a baby with Down syndrome because of my age

Thank you ALL for your encouraging words. It is great relief to connect with other woman who are having or have had babies around the same age as myself. I thank you all and congratulate you all on your bundles of joy! I am glad there are communities like this where we can connect and offer each other support and advice.

My last three babies were born when I was 40, 43, and 45. I think many doctors focus too much on the  potential negatives when most later in life pregnancies are quite normal and healthy. You are NOT old and your precious little baby has excellent odds of being just fine. ;)

Hi! I'm also pregnant at 39. I'm 31 weeks along. I personally opted out of those tests after talking with my Dr. He simply said to me "do you plan on aborting your baby if he has down syndrome?" I told him no, he then said theres really no reason to get it then. Also, if you read up on it there are alot of women with false positives. I personally know three. All I can say is keep your head up and try not to worry. I know it's easier said than done but stress isnt good for you. Take your vitamins eat healthy foods (avocado is great) LOTS of folic acid and take comfort in knowing you're doing everything you can.  I am in the same boat and I've had a very healthy pregnancy So far with only gestational diabetes which has been easily manageable. Try to enjoy this precious time in your life :)

Hi I am 36 years old and I will be 37 when my baby is born. The doctor told me women over35 are at high risk for having down syndrome babies. Try not to worry and trust me you are not alone. There are so many women having healthy babies later in life. Good luck to you!

I know how you feel.  I had my first at 41 and was a month from turning 42 and now pregnant at 44, I'll be 45 when this baby is born.  My mom had my brother at 39,

I recall when I did blood work on the likelihood for Downs it was very low.  Not reflective of my age at all.  Everyone's body is different.

Be encouraged!  There really is hope.
