I have also heard that it is genetic but my mom has tons of stretchmarks and I am on my second child with none so far, fingers crossed. She has always said that we were worth it though and they didn't bother her. There seem to be a ton of fading creams out there now that will at least help some, good luck, and remember the babies are worth it :-)
I believe NOTHING protects you or get rid of strechmarks. During the first trimister I was using coco butter all the time now I use Bio Oil and everybody says it works but so far it hasn't done anything for me at all in fact I'm getting more strechmarks.
Also it is complete BS that the way your moms skin was during pregnancy is the way your will be. My mom has NEVER had a strechmark ever and I have tons all over.
Oh and a friend mentioned mederma did LIGHTEN her strech marks after pregnancy.
I think part of it is genetics.....hence mentioned above. But from what I am learning...drink lots of water and when your skin feels tight vitamin E oil or the conditioners in Burts Bee's Mama Bee belly rub is fantastic. And its like $12 at Target. Just remember your skin is an organ. And ask your Mom how she was during her pregnancy. :-) Best of luck!
Whatever cream you like because every Dr I spoke with said they are all the same. You'll get marks with or without special cream. I was worried, but to lazy and tired to bother with cream and after what they said, I figured whats the point. I never put cream on and I didn't get a single stretch mark...Not 1 and I had a 10.5 pound big ol' baby! I was talking to my mom about it and she never got one either after 3 babies all at 9+ pounds. My sister in law has them bad after 2 average size babies and she used that 100.00 a bottle strivecta stuff! BTW, her mom has them bad too!
