20 days late on cycle, but have every pregnancy symptom there is, and hpt's are still negative

I am almost 37 yrs. old, with a history of toxemia in my first pregnancy, and a family history of protein s deficiency syndrome, which causes clotting in the blood. A little about my history that might help. I had my first pregnacy 18 yrs ago. I had two abortions a few years afterwards, with great regret and remorse now of course. I had a miscarriage last year at six weeks, which was a spontaneous abortion. I got a postive 8 days after my period was due. My husband and I were trying to conceive last month, as this will a first child for him. We were trying to time everything perfectly. My cycles are sometimes 2-3 days off, but never 20 days off. I began having mild symptoms, and then in the last three days I have sore breasts/nipples, nipples darker, frequent urination, nausea, certain smells make me sick, extreme fatigue, irrational crying, headaches, and slight cramping in my stomach. Every hpt is negative, and the yes/no blood test the dr. gave me was negative @ 8 days late. This is driving me nuts! Will the blood test which measures hcg levels give an accurate answer? I go in tomorrow for this test. I am definitely not new at this and recognize all the symptoms. If it is positive, what causes false negatives, and is it dangerous for myself or the baby. Could the family history of protein s def. syndrome have anything to do with this? Any advice would be appreciated.

I had 2 HPT come back  negative and Im now 23 wks. The blood wk will tell the tale. In your protein disorder you may have to take a blood thinner or aspirin early in your pregnancy to maintain the baby to term. Check w/your doctor for sure.

On your cycle...you are 37....it can get WAY off. And you also may not ovulate every month. I learned this myself at 35 yrs of age.

I don't kow anything about protein def. syndrome, so I can't help you there.  But if at 8 days late your blood work showed a negative for pregnancy, that is perplexing, I would think pregnancy is not the case? Bloodwork is usually pretty accurate, and I think it shows a positive at anything over 25.  If you are having the quantative tomorrow, that should give you more answers.  I know I have heard of a lot of women getting negatives on HPT's for quite some time after they were in fact pregnant, so its certainly possible.  But I would definately think tomorrow's bloodwork will give you your answers.  I sure wish I could have been more helpful.  I do wish you well, and hope its a positive test for you.

Take care.
