Great!  Thanks for the info.  I tried to do the temperature thing too and I am far too much a fan of the snooze button to ever be successful with that!!

Thanks for the tip on Walgreens, I will go pick some up.  I am on day 3 of my cycle today.

I have an appt. with my gyn on Monday and they also do infertility, etc. so I will talk to them about clomid as well.

Thanks again for all the help and good luck to you too!!

BTW ...they say it's FMU for the home pregnancy tests.

Actually the level of LH in your system for first morning urine is a bit of a higher concentration.  The real level shows in you system late morning or in the afternoon.   And it's good to check at the same time or thereabouts each day.   I got this information from my fertility clinic.   Also start with the OPKs on CD10 and I'd get the walgreen's generic brand ...they are fairly inexpensive and a lot less than clear blue easy.

I totally understand about not preventing vs trying.   It's not the same thing...for all you know you could have missed your fertility window each time.

Some women take their temperature....supposedly when it's certain degrees above your normal temp you are suppose to ovulate.   But I never could do that as you take your temp the second you get up and before you go to the bathroom.   I would try to do that, but would fall back asleep while waiting for the thermometer to finish.  It just didn't work for my.

But i would say you are still in a good position to have a baby....37 is very young and fertile compared to when you reach your 40's  So you have plenty of time.  I would say visit an RE about 4 months after you are seriously trying given the fact that you could probably count some of those months you weren't preventing.

Sometimes something as simple as clomid could give you a little booster....and maybe your gyn could give it to you.  Good luck to you....and this forum is very helpful for encouragement.

Hi!
Thanks so much for the advice.  We actually just started trying seriously; my Father-in-law was quite ill the past year so we weren't really "trying" as much as we weren't preventing it if that makes sense.

Thanks for the tip of testing about 11:00AM - out of curiosity why is that?  I've always heard first thing in the morning.

Thanks for the advice and well wishes!
Melissa

Hi Melissa! I'm 37, will turn 38 in May and I am 24 weeks pregnant. I had been TTC for some time and tried all sorts of treatments that didn't work... ended getting pregnant the ol' fashion way...

the only thing I did was take a daily penatal vitamine AND a daily dose of DHEA bought over-the-counter at a local health store.

good luck! I hope you get your wish soon!!!

ps don't get too obsessed with the TTC thing because (and I speak from personal experience) it puts a damper on things, adds stress in your love life and sexual health with your husband, and makes you miserable if you don't succeed... it's like a viscious circle... just my advise to you!

It is harder to try to conceive at your age, but you're still at a very good age.  Just keep at it.

My advice to you is keep at it.  If you don't get pregnant within 6 months of TTC, see an infertility doctor and be a bit more agressive with TTC efforts;  OPK's are good tool in determining when you ovulate...follow instructions carefully and test about 11:00 AM.   If your cycle is a typical 28-day cycle BD on CD 10, 12, and 14, and try no to stress to much over it.   You are in good shape and the baby factory isn't quite ready to close up shop.   By the way....how long have you been trying????

I echo Pamela's words...Welcome!!!  I agree with everything Pam said and would add one more comment.  For us over 35ers, it's best to consult a specialist if you haven't conceived in 6 months.  I also always think it's a great idea to have a full physical up front, but I think that goes for anyone trying to conceive at any age.  Don't worry to much about your age. It's true we can have a bit of a longer road, but as Pam said, so many here have conceived healthy pregnancies at much older ages then you.  I am 40 and currently trying myself!  So welcome, and I think you will find the support here you are looking for!!!

Hello, and welcome to the forum.  This question comes up quite often from women your age and older.  There are risks being over the age of 35, but there are risks having a child at any age.  At 37 and older, it's an issue of egg quality and quantity.  Miscarraige and other complications are always possible, and can happen at anytime.  If you are healthy, do not have a history of fertility problems or miscarriages, than you should be fine and good to go with TTC.  Are your cycles regular?  Are you using OPKs?  OPKs are an excellent tool to help monitor your fertile time.  Have sex on unpredicted days throughout the month, not just when you think you're ovulating...well, especially when you're ovulating...but have sex prior to and after ovulation as well. You will get lots of great advice and support from the women on this forum.  You have come to the right place...many women on this site are actively TTC or currently pregnant.  Enjoy the process, and I'll be wishing a BFP for you..please keep us posted!  Pam
