Am I too old to get pregnant?

To all you 45 + ladies out there who got pregnant...How did you do it?  How were your periods - regular / irregular?  Were you trying to conceive?  Or was it totally unexpected / did you think it was too late?  I am 45 and hoping it's not too late for me to get pregnant.  I have an 8 yr. old (almost 9) and would love to give her a sibling.  (I wish I would have tried years ago!)  I haven't had a period in 3 1/2 months and I'm hoping it's not menopause.  I'm not ready!  Does anyone have any words of encouragement?

TTC for 2 years...42y/o pregnant with first one, natural way. I will have just one due to my age and economic situation.

Being pregnant is beautiful  but besides this we need to be ready  to bring a child to this world to a good social and economic status.

I have to come back to work after the baby is 2 months  which makes me so sad and thank god my husband business is besides our home so it will be easier, also my mother lives down the block so kind of she lives in my house..( thank god!)

If you are ready to have a child and have a good economic _social background & people who can help you while pregnant and after and then ivf will be an option.

It took me about 11 months to get pregnant. I'll be 41 in May. I was on my first round of clomid 50 mg. I'm 5 weeks pregnant now.

There are still choices if you really want this.  Adoption as staned said, and also IVF with donor eggs.  Your dream can be realized!!  I hope something wonderful happens for you.

I'm so sorry. If it helps any, which I'm sure it may not, there is always adoption. It may not be biologically yours but you will love it and it will always call you mommy.

Well, I went to the RE and they said my FSH is 57.  So it's over for me.  Thanks for all your support.  Don't put off getting pregnant!

I am 41 and pregnant :) I had been taking the pill for 3 years (Ortho Tri Cyclen). My last active pill was Feb 5, I got my MP Feb 8 and on Feb 13, when I was supposed to start my next pack, my husband surprised me with an early Valentine's present...baby shoes! (his way of saying he was ready to try). So I didn't start my pack...ovulated Feb 22 and conceived. I am due 11/15/11 :) I am hoping for twins but will be happy with whatever God gives us :)

My other children are 20 and 18 (will be 21 and 19 in July and June). I also have a 10 year old stepdaughter who has been with me for over 3 years. I have two older stepchildren that do not live with us (ages 20 and 19). This will be our first and only biological child together.

I never dreamed I would conceive right away...and reading here about how some struggle to conceive just breaks my heart at times.

Thanks for all the comments.  I do have an appt. next week with an RE, so we'll see what he says.  I'm trying not to get too down or get my hopes up until after that.  Thanks again for all the support!  Good luck to all of you TTC also!

I am 42 years old, and I have a 5-year-old DD, who was conceived during the first cycle of TTC (when I was 36). We are TTC again now, to give her a sibling, and it has been rough. The upside is that I am still able to get pregnant pretty easily (3x in one year). The downside is that I have lost all of those pregnancies.
If you are very committed to having a baby, or, if you are very lucky, you have a great chance of having a sibling for your DD. DH and I are looking into donor eggs, and may go that route. But, I would definitely see your doctor, and a Reproductive Endocrinologist ASAP so that you have the best shot at having a baby. Good Luck!

I miscarried several times in my late 30's, then had a healthy child at almost 41.  All my pregnancies were naturally conceived.  I am now 42 and trying for a second child.  I did fall pregnant the first cycle we timed things, but sadly lost that one as well.  

Irregular cycles do not mean you cannot conceive, although it is more challenging.  I would see a Dr. about the fact that you have had no period for 3 months.  It is very possible something else is going on besides menopause.  If you are in perimenopause, it also does not mean you cannot conceive.

Start with a trip to the Dr to see what is going on with your cycle. Then start timing ovulation and start of period.  It is fine to be irregular, and you can pinpoint ovulation time using ovulation predictor kids.  However, it is important that the time frame from ovulation to start of period be at least 10 to 12 days.  You need this length of time in order for the egg to properly implant.  Anything shorter then that is known as a luteal phase defect.  If you really want to get serious about this quickly, I would probably visit an RE.  They can do an assessment as well as explain your options.

Wonderful thing in this day and age is that just about anyone can have a baby.  It just really depends on how far you are willing to go. Best of luck to you!!

I am also 42 and 10 weeks 3days pregnant. I did an IVF cycle and was pregnant with twins but lost one at 7 weeks. The other seems to be doing fine thus far. I did get pregnant on my own at 39 but miscarried. At our age I think IVF is a good option if you can afford it. However, I also know a few women older than me who got pregnant naturally !!

Hi there!  I had my son at 43 and my daughter at 45, both conceived naturally, both very much wanted, I became pregnant immediately with my son...my daughter took several months to conceive.  I am now 47...and as much as I'd love to have more...that's just not gonna happen.  "Kitchen's Closed" as I say!!  

I am lucky in that I was able to conceive naturally, and delivered both vaginally to term.  I'm grateful I have (had) such a healthy reproductive system...everything went without incident.  I wish you much luck and the only advice I have to you is, that if in fact you do become pregnant resulting in a little bambino...it's tiresome, so get all the rest you can, and take all the help that's offered.  I wish I could afford a full time nanny--it truly is a privledge for those that do!!  Keep us posted!  Pam

I am 39 an pregnant with first child/twins.  I used donor eggs as I was having no luck on my own using IVF. I completed 4 cycles.
There are quite a few women using donor eggs/donor embryos although some like to remain anynoumous.
They say for the age bracket you are in there is about 5-10% chance conceiving on your own.

Hi, I am 42 my periods were regular and very heavy, because my period was heavy I had a Mirena IUD put in 3 years ago and had it taken out on the 27th Aug last year. I fell preg same cycle I had the IUD taken out, however I didn't get to keep that baby. We tried for 3-4 months after losing the baby, but we were having no luck. I just thought that my time for having a child was over so we stopped. I am now 8w 2d pregnant, and very happy. I needed no fertility treatment. If I needed them I don't think I would have even tried to fall pregnant. I wish you all the best :)
