Bloody show after pelvic axam

I know that it is common to see a bit of spotting after a pelvic exam, but just wondering if mine is from my exam or an actual 'show'? I am 38 weeks today and had the pelvic 2 days ago to check for dilation / effacement. My OB told me to expect some spotting, which I had a tiny nit of for the rest of the day. The next day I had nothing. Then this morning I felt like there was a lot of discharge (sorry TMI) and when I checked it was brownish mucus. Is this just old blood from the exam even thought I had nothing all day yesterday, or is this an actual 'show'?
