Boys' names

Well this decision is proving to be far more difficult then we thought it would be.  What an incredible responsibility.  We are driving ourselves crazy worry about what names rhyme with, short forms of and initials...we are trying to spare our little boy as much teasing as possible.  For a middle name we have decided on Steven after a cousin of mine that passed away far too young.  He and I were very close and I want to honor my son with his name.  Our last name is very very french and quite long.  We want something that is strong and a little different, without being to "out there" (no fruit except the edible kind in this house).  We have two we like, and I would love your opinions....very open to suggestions as well.

Ryder Steven
Chase Steven

What do you think?  Oh and nothing that starts with an A, or the poor childs initials will be A.S.S....

Thanks as always....Amanda

I love the name Ryder. If we had a boy we were going to name him Kayman Micheal. I guess it's safe to share that now.....LOL Since we are having a girl. I think you will know for sure once you see his little face. You will know who he is.

Ryder.  A strong, action-oriented kind of name.  Strong, tall, a guy's guy...you know you can count on him to get things done!

I love the name Ryder but as a teacher I caution against it... I have never had a child with an active name not live up to it haha... wink wink... also initial names like J.R. and P.J.  seem to always be in the principal's office ...  this year I have a Tygre (pronounced Tiger) and when I asked the prior teacher if he lived up to the name... Just a hunch.. she said ohhh yea, already on a behavior plan... and I am a second grade teacher...  just a thought ;)

I happened to pick out such a popular name for my baby - I have such a habit of doing that!  When I picked out my oldest son's name (Brandon in 1984), I thought it was so unusual and come to find out, it seemed later on that every little boy born at that time was a Brandon.  Noah - the same way.  I did a little better w/the girls but not much.

Anyway, I like Chase Steven - has a nice ring to it.  I love the name Jack (short for Jackson).  I've never heard of Jaxon.  I also like Nolan a lot!  My Becca was going to be a Nolan if she had been a boy.

Sue68 has a good point about keeping the name a secret (but not w/us - LOL!).  When my sister wanted to name her baby Caroline, people would tell her about the Kate Hudson character's name on The Skeleton Key which also was Caroline.  Sis ended up changing baby's name to Amanda.  It's so wonderful to pick out names - have fun! - jen

Chase Steven - pretty darn cool!

Hi,

I like Ryder - but, in case he doesn't look like a Ryder when you see him here are some other ideas :

Cody
Kristopher
Jesse
Rory
Reilly
Ryan
Daniel
Hunter
Callum

or how about a french sounding name ?

Remi.
Sebastien
Luc
Marc
Andre

When my sister was pregnant with her kids ( 3 ) - she didn't tell anyone the names they'd picked because someone always said something like : "Oh , I knew a __so and so__, what a ___________ !"   ( fill in blank : jerk, nerd, wackjob, perv , etc   Maybe you might want to consider keeping the names a secret.  That way, when he is born you can say, "Voila, I present to you so-and-so  Steven St. Something !" and then everyone will ooh and aah and say , "Oh , that suits him , how perfect ! "

Good luck - hope you find a name you both like - plus a "back up" or two.  I don't think he'll be called "Baby Boy" for long - the name will come straight to your lips when you're holding him.  Have fun !

Oh dear.  I didn't know that. I have never heard that slur before.  I hope I didn't offend anyone.  Beaner came as a result of little bean and we didn't want to refer to the baby as "it".  I feel bad.

Tricia, my mom says the same thing.  My name was supposed to be Kirsten, but when she saw me Amanda came to mind.  What worries me about this is that Warren takes forever to make any kind of decison.  He is very analytical and needs to weigh the pros and cons of everything....I can just see it know...the birth certificate will wind up reading "Baby Boy Steven St. so on (beginning of our last name).  The poor child will have his teachers calling out "Baby Boy" during attendance...

Amanda, it's a good thing you don't live in Southern California. Every time I read a post of yours where you call the little guy "beaner", I kind of crack up. Around here, it's a not-very-nice, kind of disrespectful and racist thing to call a person of Mexican descent. LOL.

As for the name - don't stress. It will come to you as you get closer. And you may end up giving the baby a name you aren't even considering now. I decided on my daughter's name after I saw her...and it was a name I hadn't even considered, but read in a book the night before she was born! (Her name is Alexandra.)

Thanks for the input everyone.  I am so glad we still have a long way to go just so we can pick out a good name.  I am trying to think of my little boy as a man as well.  Nothing to babyish, know what I mean?  I love Nolan and Liam as well.  They were both on my list, but DH wasn't crazy about them.  He also isn't wild about the really traditional names, so those are out.  Carter is nice and Jaxon is on my list as well.  I can't believe this is so difficult.  With our inability to make a decision, baby won't just be nameless for a few days, it could be months!  And I told DH I am not calling him beaner much longer.....although I am beginning to think it may stick as a nickname...poor little guy!  I am currently really liking Ryder and Chase though.  I am betting it comes out as one of those as our final pick.  I appreciate everyones input and taking the time to give me other suggestions!  Thanx!!

I like both Ryder and Chase. Some of the names I really liked, too, that we considered were Gavin and Nolan.

I love Ryder.  I also like Carter.  Our last name ends in "er" so I doubt we would ever use those but I really like them.
Good luck.  It is a very big decision and responsibility.  The good thing is once your little boy is born and you chose a name you immediately stop thinking of what a huge responsibility it was and just know them as their given name.

I love Ryder! That was one of my names and Chase was one of my husband favorites! I don't think you can go wrong with either but of course I am leaning towards my pick ;-)

Amanda, I like both names. When I had my second son he was suppose to be Antonio James, but when he was born he didn't look like an Antonio, poor little guy was nameless for 3 days, we finally decided that Baby R. didn't fit either so we ended up naming him Mario James, very fitting :) I guess what i'm saying is that you should have a back-up name just in case(you don't want the poor little guy to end up like Mario, nameless). Good luck, it is a huge responsibility!

Chase is my vote, but they are both very nice.

Colten was tough to name too-  Taylor came easy because we had a boy's name picked with the first- Tyler-  so... we just changed it to Taylor-  even though Tyler is nice for a girl too...  but since we have a Taylor, we didn't want a Tyler too....  so...  I had a whole list of names, and we slowly crossed names off...  we were actually only about 90% sure we were naming him Colten when I went in to have him....  wanted to wait and make sure he didn't look more like a Brenton, or something!  :)  Actaully DH was at work when they made me fill in all the papers naming him,  when DH came in I said "you did want to name him Colten, right"?!  :)  he laughed...

Jaxon was on my list-  shorten to Jax then...  but DH didn't like it!  :)
