Clomid and hostile mucus

So I am on to my third round of clomid.  I have been pregnant 4 times in 12 months on my own, but my Dr. started me on clomid after two cycles of a shortened luteal phase. It has corrected that problem. Also, with a history of m/c, he wanted me on it to boost progesterone (I take prometrium and baby asprin after ovulation as well.) I was obviously ovulating on my own, and as far as I know that hasn't changed.  Periods are normal.  As I have not conceived on 2 cycles of clomid, I started reading more about it on the internet (not always the best idea..lol), and I read that in some women in can cause "hostile mucus" making it very difficult for the sperm to do their thing.  I am seeing my new OB on the 26th of this month, and am going to ask her about it, but am wondering if anyone here had a problem with this?  Thanks as always...

I just wanted to comment on EWCM.
I never thought I had very much either, but my last Pap test ( two days before ovulation), the Doctor did a cervical swab and came out with so much healthy mucus she was amazed!  I think that is why she said I was perimenopause, but still no were near menopause.
Anyway, I guess I have alot more than I thought, maybe you do to?

Thanks so much Lica.  I actually have never produced a lot of EWCM, so maybe this is a good idea for me.  We do use preseed, but I am not sure if it does the same thing or not.  I have noticed since taking the clomid, I can't rely on my cervical mucas as an ovulation sign.  I am pretty much strictly going on OPK now, although I am going to chart this month. Today is CD1 (yesterday was just spotting, so counting today).  I missed today, but am starting tomorrow am.  Hopefully I interpret it properly..lol.  I am really at a loss as to whether or not to do anything extra this cycle. I hate to "waste a cycle", so want to do what I need to do, but Dr. said not to do anything extra until I see OB.  I see her the 26th and I should ovulate around 19th or 20th.  Its all so confusing!!

I think I need to do a whole bunch of reading on this, as I always worry about self diagnosing.

Thanks again, Amanda

Just know if you decide to use the Robitussin make sure there are no additives in it.  Guaifenesin is what you need.  You can also utilize the generic brand which is called Tussin or even the store brand (i.e. Walgreen's, CVS, etc.)...not sure if these are in Canada. There are several types of Robitussin (i.e. Robitussin DM, Robitussin C, Robitussin D, etc.) These all have additional active ingredients in them like Dextromethorphan HBr which is a cough suppressant and you do not need that.  You just solely need Guaifenesin as the active ingredient. Also if you do not do well with elixirs you may want to take Mucinex instead.  It is Guaifenesin as well in an oral tablet form. You are supposed to use this before you ovulate and not after because Guaifenesin is thought to cross the placental barrier which means your fetus would be exposed to it.  I have no clue what affect it has on the fetus.  My body has always produced alot of EWCM, but I noticed when I used Guaifenesin, it increased my cervical mucus even more. I hope this helps friend.

I just came back from my Dr. appointment, and had my clomid prescription renewed.  Now he is just a GP, so no specialty, but he told me not to take or use anything with the clomid until I see my OB on the 26th.  So I guess I will just try this round same as before, and see what she says/thinks.  I try not to self diagnose, but its hard sometimes...lol. He did say its not uncommon to go 2 or 3 cycles with no results, so maybe this month will do it!!  Thanks for the info again all, I always appreciate your input.

I take the Evening Prime Rose to start for CD1 until I "o". After I "o", I pick up with Flaxseed Oil until AF comes.  I also use preseed and I find this helps.

I have read that about Clomid too, I guess there are always something negative with something positive.

Good luck too you!!

Hi Amanda,
Yes Robitussin cough medicine, suppose to help the mucous or something like that.  I'll google it.
Us woman - we will take anything if it means we may have an extra 1% chance of conceiving!

Thanks you guys. By the way, is that Robitussin, as in the cough medicine?  I am wondering if maybe I should get off the clomid.  I think one more round of it, then we will see what happens.  I see my new OB on the 26th, and apparantly she is fantastic in the fertility department.  Seeing an RE is still almost a year away....waiting lists...sigh.

Thanks for the input!!

I have not gone your route, but have spent enough time on the internet to believe that clomid does cause hostile mucus.  I think thats why woman take robitussin while on it.
Maybe I dont know what the hay I'm talking about:).
I Have a friend who concieved with clomid and she mentioned the robitussin thing.  I'll ask her.
