Congested

I'm in my 1st trimester and have a head cold. My nose is stopped up and using saline drops does not work. I don't know what medicine is safe to take. Is there anything out there that I can take?

Benedryl is on the safe meds list. It may help with a bit of the congestion.

A near trick I learned is to stock your tongue to the roof of your mouth as hard as you can press, and put a finger on the top of your nose in between your eyebrows and again press really hard. Hold both presses for twenty seconds, release for twenty seconds, and repeat. It should help with some of the congestions. As for medicines, there really isn't anything you can take other then regular strength tylenol for pain. Cold and sinus medication is NOT recommended because there hasn't been thorough studies done to determine the effect on the baby.

You can boil some water and pour into a bowl or a stooped up sink. Lower your head over it, not too close, cover your head with a towel and breathe the steam. That usually helps me. Another thing I use is ginger. I chew it a couple times, but don't swallow for a couple minutes. That usually unplugs me too.  Also give your doc a call and ask them what is safe. Praying you feel better soon. Nothing is more miserable than being sick and pregnant.
