Early miscarriage maybe due to progesterone

I recently had a miscarriage at five weeks( last week). I had not been trying or not trying to get pregnant. We were so thrilled  that I was pregnant then so sad that within a few days my progesterone levels were at 0 and the doctor said I would miscarry. My hcg was at 78 then dropped to 10 within three days. The doctor said to come back in a few months she wanted me to get my progesterone levels looked at. The doctor has retired from OB work and just doing GYN. SO I will need to find a new one that is fertility or/and ob/ gyn. I just turned 40 and do not feel that I have a lot of time to sit back and wait if I want to really give it a last chance. I do not want to try and get pregnant again without all my hormone levels correct. When do you think I can  correctly get my hormone levels checked? Do you think  I should go ahead a book an appointment with a fertility doctor for a few months. So that if the problem is low progesterone .I can try to get my levels up. I really don not know how to proceed.I had a health pregnancy 11 years ago. Although it did take a while to get pregnant.

I'm sorry for your loss;-/  Lots of us here have suffered multiple mc's;(
Checking your progesterone is very easy.  You don't even need to be seeing a specialist to do it.  You DO need to know your cycle, & when you ovulate, you then get a blood test between 6-8 days post ovulation, & this will confirm that you DID ovulate, & it checks if you were to get pregnant on that cycle, if your levels would be high enough to sustain a pregnancy.  Progesterone levels do fluctuate monthly, some of it has to do w/the way our hormones are (balanced or not) & sometimes if you do get pregnant it has to do w/a non viable pregnancy.
Good luck;) & keep us posted!

I am so sorry for your loss.  When you are pregnant your body produces progesterone.  If the pregnancy is not a healthy one, your progesterone and hcg levels will not rise.  So, it could be that you miscarried due to low progesterone, or that your progesterone was low due to a non viable pregnancy (typically due to chromosonal issues).  You had what is called a chemical pregnancy.  All these problems are more common in women in our age, hence the increase in our rate of first trimester miscarriage.  I went through this 5 times before conceiving my son (I am currently 26 weeks with a healthy boy).  So, you have to make the decision as to whether or not to continue trying on your own and getting on progesterone supplements as soon as you conceive again or to try a fertility specialist right away.  It is possible that the next time you conceive all will be just fine.  If it were me, I would probably see a specialist sooner rather then later.  Good luck to you.

I'm sorry for your loss.  I too, miscarried just over a year ago, possibly due to low progesterone levels.  I immediately did a whole lot of hormone tests amongst other tests to see where my needs were and progesterone was at the top of the list.  As soon as I had one normal cycle I started on natural progesterone tablets(progonb), which I take for two weeks out of every month.  I've never felt better and realize how important it is to keep your hormone levels where they should be pregnant or not.  After almost a year of taking them my levels are peaking and now I'm going to see if I can stop them and maintain my own progesterone levels with Vitex and continue taking my vitamins and minerals.  I would definately look into things as soon as possible.  GOD BLESS.
