Erratic HCGs

Hello, my HCG numbers started out great at 373, two days after my missed period. Three days later, my HCG only went up to 648.  Another two days after, they dropped to 519 so I was advised I was miscarrying and to stop all progesterone supplements.  Later that week my symptoms came back (sore breasts, etc.) and I went for another HCG test  to make sure they were still dropping but the numbers rose to 730. This was seven days after the 519 result (and now 6 weeks since LMP). The next day they did an ultrsound and they saw 'something' in the uterous, not in the tubes or ovaries so they ruled out ectopic but the blood test, 24 hours after the 730 result,  came back even higher with an HCG of 909.  Why would my levels be rising again and symptoms coming back?  My progesterone is at 37.2 and I had stopped taking supposities a week ago after the 519 HCg test.  Can you please explain this?  They can't seem to. I do home inseminations and did one on cycle day 12 and cycle day 13 when I felt I was ovulating. Although I often feel I ovulate more than once a month but not sure that is possible. I also have a history of M.C and this would be my 7th (I have been tested for everything with no issues found) and am now 45 years old with good FSH numbers still. All other miscarriages were 'normal'

Hi Ladies, well HCG went up even further to 930 on Friday and today (Monday) has only dropped to 880.  To weird.  Yes, doctors just keep saying to keep trying to get pregnant or I could try IVF where they can do genetic testing before implanting embryos so that there are no genetic reasons for M/C'ing.  Having siad that, they may not even find a decent egg anyway but at least that could be closure?  Expensive closure! Yes, hard to have closure and give up when you keep getting pregnant.  Four MCs were what they call chemical so I was pregnant for about a week.  This is my thrid where I am actually along a bit, the first two were at 9 weeks and 12 weeks respectively though the hearbeat stopped prior.  First M/C I did naturually (never again thank you very much) and second was a D&C, quick and painless.  Hard to know when to quit, huh?  I have one son and wanted to give him a biollogical sibling.  So I count my blessings I have the one. Each time I M/C I say I am giving up but I don't.  The herbs are VITEX (good for blaancing hormones and keeping your FSH low) and Maca root is good for progesterone and increasing sex drive, really good stuff that aid in pregnancy. Check the Fertile Heart website for other fertility pointers, all natural options (in most cases). Hope that helps.  I just want my HCG to go down!  It's like a tease or, worse yet, the worry of an unidentified ectopic.

Having just turned 46, I've had two natural pregnancies (lasting a total of 4 months) in the last 6 months, so I've also had about a 50% success rate in the months I've been trying to conceive.  But after two miscarriages, I'm not sure how many times to try; the cycle of hope and then disappointment is just so difficult.  So I'm very curious how you have coped with 7 miscarriages.  Do you have children already?  Do your doctors encourage you to keep trying?

I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through. How frustrating that must be. I just had a D&C after a missed m/c and stil lwaiting for my HCG levels to go down to 0. BUt the body works in it's own sweet time... I also still felt pregnant after the D&C. LIke BG-MN said, it's the hormones we're still producing. That is amazing you got pregnant so many times! WHat are those herbs you mentioned? Vltex and Maca Root? What do they do?
Hang in there and let us know how you're doing,

HI girls, thanks for your feedback.  I felt I was miscarrying, I just can't  understand why they would go down and then start going up again.  I wish I could just get this over with, it's so frsutrating and nervewracking and bewildering.  I know all the stats but apparently I break records in getting pregnant, 7 times in the last three years, and that's with many months of being pregnant before miscarrying.  In other words, I got pregnant 50% of the time whenever trying to and statistics at 'our age' is suppsed to be 1%. Otherwise I would have quit long ago! I can tell you VItex herb, Maca root and acupuncture really increase the odds!

I'm sorry for your losses.  I was several days into a miscarriage last week and yet my hcg also went up (but not high enough for the pregnancy to be normal).  It sounds like you might have a "missed miscarriage"; if you don't bleed soon, maybe you should ask for another ultrasound?  And then get a d & c?  And/or I would also ask for weekly hcg levels to make sure the levels eventually drop back to normal.  My understanding is that sometimes the placenta continues to generate hcg even though there is no fetus growing; you can't go by symptoms as pregnancy, as those come from the hormones you're generating.  As you've probably been told, the miscarriage rate at 45 is really high (like 75-80%) due to chromosomal abnormalities in older eggs.  I'm in the same age range, and doctors tell me the miscarriage rates constantly, but we're still trying!
